Title: 14" Fuchs
Post by: CrossFit_Pete on August 30, 2021, 21:56:36 pm
Has anyone fitted a set of 14" Fuchs to a Cal Look bug? Are they really too small or is it the tyres that are the problem?

This was my 57 back in 1982-83 with 14" alloys

you are welcome, I never had any issues and they worked great. I had a 1750cc (69x90) huge welded heads and IDA's on it along with close trans. 4:12 R&P and a 1;21 4th. high RPM motor, with the shorter tires it didn't bother it. It ran pretty well, didn't lose to many street races with it. They were Michelin tires on them.

I have dropped spindles on the front of mine, not sure they will fit otherwise I'd get a set.

Which Front beam do you have? 66 and later will most likely be an issue.
I even had to modify my dropped spindels for Ronal 15 inch wheels

Car is '67 2" narrowed beam with dropped spindles.

I run 15 x 6s with dropped spindles and they hit the inside of the wheel hoop. No way you could run 14s with dropped spindles.

CB dropped spindles? They are not machined deep enough for the bottom ball joint to sit in, hence they foul/rub the wheel rim

Empi and CB both rubbed on the lower ball joint.

I ran stock spindles, disc brakes on link pin front end, was lowered via adjusters. didn't have any issues with clearance on both 14" and 15" alloys.

This is my 1970 . . . stock width beam . . . stock spindles . . . 14X5.5 alloys in the front and 15X6 alloys in the rear.
I recently put 14X5.5 alloys on the rear w/215-70 tires and it now looks much better than with the puny 165s in these photos!
FWIW . . . my son's 1969 with Empi dropped spindles rubbed on OG 15X5.5 Riviera wheels, so . . . the dropped spindles had to go away!

I'm running 15x6 original Fuchs, CB 2 inch narrowed beam, CB dropped spindles on my 67 and have no rubbing issues.

Hey Paulo,
Do you have an picture is your 67 with the 6 inch Fuchs in the front?
A friend is planning the same setup for his 67.
Best regards Stefan

Nice wheels. Are you planning to take these off to run the 14” Fuchs?

Probably keep them for a while, will probably get 15" Fuchs to be honest but would have been happy with 14" if they fitted, they are a lot cheaper!  :)

Yes, although the 14” ones seem to be getting more expensive.

Have you got a pic of your car with the Burners?

Hi,Here’s mine on 14”s. Very similar to  Larry S . I think it suits the car,no drop spindles but an adjustable beam.
