hey guys who's car is the red car on the front of the issue, right next to the GOSS/SEUME/RICHIE chop top? it looks so good. can is see more pics of it please

there isn't pictures inside from that car nicolas

i know, but it looks like a dkp car or something it has the hoodbadge, sticker in the rear window and the trunklid is open. but indeed no pics inside the mag...  :-\ but i wanted to know who own it or who's car it was at the time and maybe some more info. it may even have a mousemotor in it that could tickle our fancy...

Petit poste technique purement graphique, normalement, tu as sur ton scaner une fonction détrammage qui doit s'appeler "supprimer le moiré"... sur HP en tout cas. Cette fonction devrait te permettre de produire des doc moins pixelisés que jusqu'ici ::)

but i posted it earlier i am not a great historicus of callook.  :-[

i like to know a lot more, but i just don't know where to get the info. all i have is callook bible and a couple mags. it would be nice to have a layout of the DKP incarnations and members, when they joined, left and what car they drove, but that might need a different topic alltogether.

the car here, just looks good, but i want to sniff it up some more with more pics and specs, before i can really make up my mind

Mike Billings had a sweet 67 won Americas most beatigul VW at Bug-in? The story I saw the car had unpolished and detailed Fuchs on it. I loved that car.

Hell, I took the photo, but I don't recall who owned that car... I remember taking the photo from the roof of the old Hot VWs building, and Keith Goss and Tim Orchard were there... But the red car? Sorry.

too bad, because i was kinda hoping you would have known as i looked it up also and i know you did take the picture. thanks for wrecking your brain. i am pretty sure we can dig it up from our collective memory and vast archieves. thanks

here's mike billings 67  and on the cover is not a 67 model just watch the headlight  ::) , the car has a racing mirror , and 5x205 wheels and no one piece windows kit

You might want to look at the HVWs June 1977 issue cover, and some of the photos of the DKP at the park for clues. That car might be in that bunch somewhere. It is not Mike Billings '67. Look at the door handles, headlights, and vent windows. It does appear to have a fat biscuit interior though....

no deano  nothing appear in the dkpII profile , the only one is harvey rosenthal but it's a 66  and the color looks like a burgundy and here on the cover she 's red and <-64 model

that is true, but if you look in the callook bible, there is also some pics of that shoot in it and on page 114, top picture there is a dark red car. it is in the back at the right side. maybe that is it?

   La voiture rouge sur le magazine ce nais pas Mike Billings. Apres cas Richard Kimball a achetez cette voiture apres cas la vendue a un japonais je pense bien. Je vais regardez ce soir a la maison sur le magazine.

...aahhh boys...mmmm...i believe the 'bitchin'red sedan belonged to a friend of mine / Jeff Kawaguchi ..an xlnt lettering and sign guy from the brea/la habra area of orange county...all of his stuff got stolen after that picture..!! please correct me if its not...as  i did have to think about this one for a while as that was 20/25 years ago...LOL

Wasn't Kawaguchi's car a custom, candy red, fenders molded to the body show car?

It looks like Jeff Kawaguchi's sedan... but it's probably not! Jeff's car was featured on the cover of the February '76 issue of Hot VWs (California Look Special). It had bigger windows ('66), buggy bars, and a few different details (look at the direction of the wiper blades). It also had black and not blue plates.

The Bug in question was NOT Jeff Kawaguchi, as his car was candy red (it may have been crashed by that time). It also was NOT Whit Haydon's car, which was dark brown in color, American mags, and was an Oval.

Other than a photo taken at one of the Bug-In's, Whit's car was never shot for HVWs. Freelancer, Don Emmons took the photos for VW Greats. As I recall about that time, Whit had taken that car off the road, to race NHRA Modified Compact and of course, the Bug-Ins (J/Gas?). So, there wasn't much opportunity to do it. The lettering on the door came later, which really turned the corner into a full blown racecar. It was one of those cars that should of been in HVWs, but wasn't, kinda like Mike Billings' awesome car.

I forgot that when Don shot the photos of Whit's car, it was already lettered. This was the final stage of Haydon's car, before selling it. Back then, HVWs and VWG had so few color pages for features, it sure didn't do many of these early cars justice in black and white, and newsprint paper quality. But at least they were featured for us to enjoy years later.

dean just a question : i remember buying the issue jan 91 with the IP2 in cover ,hot vws made a new report from the old one  aug 71, if I remember somebody to find the films and you republished a report on ip2,my question is: would not be this possible to make a heading but color this timei of certain old  cal looks in the hot vws  ::)

Not sure what you mean... I found the original color slides from 1971, and we published some of them in the '91 story. Now, when Jim Wright purchased the rights for Hot VWs, he received none of the film, prints or negatives used prior to that time. However, I did find a few 3-ring binders with a number of slides, mostly 35mm, but some 2-1/4s, and this is where I found the IP2 images. There are more photos of IP2 that haven't been shown, but I'll leave those to another day.

i want to said , when you took pictures for the report you had the film ???the films were in color ??? but now where are they ??? may be you could can be to again remake article on these cars which formerly appeared  in black and white , for example to make a new heading retro or return to the past ::)

Kind of like the 20 years ago article that used to pop up now and then in HVWs. It would be cool to see some of the old VW articles rerun. Maybe even as a HVWs greats special edition.
