Great project; I would go for Fuchs ;-)

Have you used body solder on that front fender, or is it just the light that tricks my eye?

Hi,
i have 4  5,5" Fuchs for it  ;D

The car is a 56 lowlight. The right fender from a 1958 lowlight (no indicator)...
A lot of hard work to change the fender...

I was in the paint-shop today to see what's happend in the meantime....

The painter is telling shit. A lot of shit. Or he lies. Or he cheating on me. Take your choice!
The progress is absolutley not in time and now he want's 100% more € !!!
What the hell......????

The painter (employee) is 3 weeks in holiday (today the first day) and no works on the car the next 3 weeks!

I was really pissed off and i was very loud in the shop. The manager says "silence please, we have other customers here". But this motivated me to speak louder. Now the manager and his assitant looking for a solution and i'm waiting for a telephone call of this fucking asshole >:(

Damn, that sucks... :(

I remind hear you telling some weeks ago that you were happy to find a good painter... :-\

Hope the best for you,

Ole

The assistant-manager give me a call.
They reduce the price for the works they have done. But he want 5000€ for finish the car completely.

I can't find words about that. If you, dont be shy......

I will pick up tomorrow my car. Hope the next painter say me the truth and dont want to cheating me.
And i hoped to finish the car for the 1. of Mai show in Hannover. I can forget it NOW!!!

Stay tuned....

Well...
I will pick up my car today and it goes to the next paint shop right here, but i must pay for the work of the first painter.

The "new" painterwill finish the car but he dont give my any guaranty. If there any problems with the bondo, paint or something else.... that's all my problem.
But i dont want to let finish the lowlight at the shitty "Autohaus Mössbauer". The damn fucking criminal paint shop!!!

Stay tuned...

You could pay with a rubber cheque - he screwed you so you screw him! ;) Then pay the second shop to re-do all the work the first lot did so they CAN guarantee their work.

Yeahh... i had the same idea, but they didn't accept any cheques. Only cash...
I'm knowing a lot of people here they are customers of this shop. Hmm...sorry - they was customers ;)

I have had the same thing happen to me first time The Body Shop Manager came to my house to give me a Price (because the car had no running gear to drive it to the Shop) we agreed on a Price I told him I would take the car all apart so I had it towed to the shop where the work would be done I had agreed to pay half up front and the other half when the car was done I gave him a Check for half three weeks went by and the check had not been cashed? I waited another week still not cashed I decided I would go by the body shop the next day that night I got a Phone Call saying he wanted to talk to me so I went to the Body shop He had not touched the car?  I said whats going on? he said he had a change of mind and decided he did not to do the car and handed mme back my check?  I was Pissed because now the car was completly apart the parking spot was full of VW parts I took off the car so I had no place for the car and I did not have  Another body shop in mind, I had another tow company pick it up and I had to kick my wife out of the garage LOL her car got to stay outside A frienfd of mine turned me on to another shop so I had him come and look at the car he gave me a Price and I told him Lets do it so I had it towed to his shop the Payment we set up at shop was pay as you go which worked out great he did so many hours  work on the car then I payed him for what he had done, I ended up having him do alot of extras on the car stripped it to bare metal, painted it inside and out, striped and painted all the jambs, the Original  Price was $8500.00 by the time I was done it cost me $11,800.00  But The Car turned out Perfect I am Happy and by paying as i went it did not HURT so Bad LOL  Befor I started  when I first got the car the pass door and quater panel had been hit I had a good Body shop fix it  and they had left it in primer but the Guy I had finally do the car Would not warranty the paint job on the quarter panel and door because he did not know what was under the primer So  There went $700.00 that I spent the First time since for the money I was Spending I wanted a warranty on the Paint job and Body..  all I can Say is it is hard to find a good Body shop to where you get what you want.

Problems with painters all over the world?

My lowlight will leave the country tomorrow!!! Maybe it's better there...

Post by: nicolas on February 20, 2008, 20:21:57 pm
if you want horrorstories about paintshops and bodywork i have had mine as well. the car should be done in goldleaf for the price i payed. but i am quite happy in the end. but the work is not a full resto like it should have been. i regret a part of it,but can't do it again now. maybe someday. but it isn't that bad as i like my car as a driver and it will end up with dings and dents anyway.

good luck with the next guy

there are some seriously good and honest painters

i've been to nearly the same -grew me a lot of grey hair that painter. best thing you can do is make a contract -list every tiny thing that has to be done and make a deadline.

Well, im prepared for the weekend. Now i'm searching for anybody who want's to swallow down my whole lowlight painter frustration.

Please no comments about beer in green bottles or something like that. If were alcohol in sheep piss, it would be also ok for me today... any questions???

I was at the "new" paintshop yesterday to watch the progress. And.... NOTHING HAPPENS in two week's ! ??? :'( >:(

NOW i know why you can see so many rat-look vw at meetings. There owners dont want to have problems with painters...

Maybe i should paint the lowlight by myself with can's and drive it like an ratlooker. Wow-it would be a very expensive rat...

Well.... next painter - next asshole!!!!!!
The lowlight was 3 week's in the paint shop and the guys do....NOTHING. Absolutley nothing!
I pick up the car today. Now he's in the trailer in front of my house.

Basti came over 400km down from Hannover (one way!!!) to help 24 hours at the project. It was a long and hard night.
We made a very big step and had a lot of fun with pizza, beer and fast food...

Now i think the lowlight has the perfect stance to drive it.

Thank's Basti for your experience and all your help!!!

Pics of the fishished car on tuesday (if it ready to drive to the MCM in Hannover)!

My girlfriend gives me one month time for finishing. It means no date's with her (and no sex too...), just telephone calls meanwhile im worked on the car 9 hours after my job, seven day's a week. It was a really hard time, and she is an amazing girl...
