Title: cal looking a coachbuilt
Post by: simon uk on December 07, 2007, 16:39:01 pm
Hi guys, I was just wondering what your view was on this. Yesterday I was reading a thread on the samba about a late model rometsch that had been found in the states in a bit of a mess and was for sale. I thought about it being dipped at the front and wearing 5 spokes, but Im not sure! I guess they were never really raced so would look a bit wierd?

I know there was the heb over here wearing sprints and I thought it was cool.

Any views?

As long as it is done in good taste I don't have a problem with modifying rare cars. Really, unless the car is hacked up beyond repair in the process there is nothing that can not be undone.

Simon, any pictures of the rometsch? A vintage road race look could be cool. Some 356 wheels, slight lowering job, spartan interior with period gauges, etc Nothing over the top, but a nice car that actually would have been raced back then.

I suppose you could call this a cal looking coachbuilt with a stretch of the imagination , i.e. porsche wheels   8)

the coolmuller was one of the latest hebs that built by karmann with the saved parts after the factoryfire at hebmüller . they "updated" the front section with 51 parts .
restored in mexico , found by a redneck and shiped over for small money...

sevenum - vw euro - was great fun there to park it in the "split windowsection" and waiting for the judges .
the -  low budget lowering kit-  with everything from the garage that have weight was after the rating everybodys talk this weekend...wuahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...
funny comments from the vintagecollectors also and a japanese who thinks it is a replica , after showing him the rust in the engine cover he shots thousends of pics like japanese do this at a journey...
parked now in museum with all his stock equipment

the kaiserslautern coupe is a one off , its the only one in the world an now in the hands of a local volkswagen collector

coachbuilt busses are also a good basic for funny toys...

Then there was this one built by a friend here in Arizona.  It was suppose to be a chopped Heb styled after the Heb prototype.  Check out the photos of the build.

what do you think about the ex kubel from manuel (gezuvor)  8)

I think SA sprints are rubbish! The kubel looks pretty cool though. It would be kind of neat to have one on a late model pan (whilst you restore the original!) with nice wheels!

Heres the link to that rometsch thread.
