The shift ball seems to be resonably priced since it is made out of billet aluminum and includes the reverse lockout button. I do not have any machinist experiece so I cannot really say how much that should be worth. Does anyone want to chime in? Nevertheless it is a nice piece and will be my christmas present to myself this year ;D

It would be reasonably priced if each one were machined one at a time but surely they are turning them out on a CNC machine by the dozens.

I think it looks ok. At least it is good to see some new products from the Bergs. I have had the impression that the company was kinda dead...

I think it's funny how there were so many complaints about the T handle and we get some negative stuff when they try to appeal to those that like shifters with round ball handles.  I guess you can't please all of the people all of the time.  I will order a round one just to have it.  Also I would bet that they are not doing a bunch of them at a time.  If you have been to the shop you would probably understand.  That is unless they are outsourcing them...

I think you miss understand Donny. I like the earlier style berg t-handles to the ones they make now. I think that is what people would like to see when they say they don't like the current t handle. However, I wanted a t handle and I wanted a Berg shifter. So I asked if they could polish the handle and since they were making them they agreed to do it. (They also took a good bit of time talking to me to make sure I got a shifter that would fit me. I ended up with one with extra curve.)

These new shifter handles are cool, and hopefully enough folks will order them to make it a regular option. It is just not what I want. When I called them to order my shifter Thursday they said they were getting ready to make the new shifters and new handles. So hopefully mine will be here in time for Christmas.

PS: Their deep sumps are also back in stock, I ordered a 3 1/2 quart jobbie. It sounds like they do stuff in batches because they said the chromoly glandnuts were still a few jobs down the line.

Yes Louis they do their stuff in batches.  They will do a production run on a product and have a bunch of stuff there just for that run.  I've seen shopping carts full of the raw parts for their shifters and cranks back in the day.  It's good to hear that they have the sumps back in stock.  I have seen the Empi copies and as much as folks say they are nice they don't look to be as strong as the Berg ones.  How many of you have seen the velocity stacks that Doug did for the black car.  They are so cool and they do make more HP that the plain ones.  I wish I had a picture, but someone out there probably has one.

Hey Guys I Talked to The Bergs The Price on the Ball Knob is $109.95 but if you order it on a New Shifter instead of a T Handle it is $64.95 More then the T Handle

i like both T and ball, no issues with any...

the new Berg ball looks good, but i would prefer it to be totally round instead of flat on top and also the reverse button on the bottom instead of the current location...

OK, you can hate me for this if you like but... why should you have to pay extra for it when you buy a shifter? Why is that $65.00 more than a t handle?

Title: Re: Gene Berg Christmas Balls
Post by: Donny B. on December 09, 2007, 02:07:01 am
Because the T handles are cast and they get them by the car load at a time...

And how much do they get for a T handle? Especially one of the early ones that they sell? I`m sorry, I guess I just don`t see it.

T handles are cheap because they are cast in bulk, the custom made ball handles are not and are more expensive to make. (And they are a limited edition.) If they wanted to, they could make you buy a shifter with the t handle and make you pay for the ball handle separate.

The early t handles they were selling a while back on the samba are no longer being produced, and have not been for a while. Those they can charge what ever they feel like.

I think he lowered his price, but there was a guy on the Samba selling a signature T handle for $300.  I have one on a new unused shifter what does that make it worth.
