There are some nice ones in a 1981 issue of VW trends, both colour(color for our american friends) and black and white.  I'm sure fabian has them.

I remember seeing him selling a bunch of the parts (Wheels) off at either Pomona or the Classic and seeing the car at Pomona later with chromies on it and looking kinda rough.

Am I the only one who isn't into that car? It's not the suicide doors, although I don't like them, or the gold and brass detailing, I'm just not keen on the overall look of the car. The stance just isn't right! :o

Take them to a plating company, get out your cheque book and ask them to gold plate them. Easy!

Proper big 'n' littles would help a ton.

Im not keen on it because it marked the beginning of the end- when show cars took over from real street cars.

hi gang...the parts on larry shaws car were 'brass plated' not gold....(sorry)....great story for those that have yet not gone to my website and read about our scheduled hot vw photo day with the "brass bug"   www.dynodon.net    ....the car was eventually bought by richard kimballs friend andy buford and brought to me to detail it once again after many many years (bug-in days)and to help him sell the car...the rest is history......enjoy/dyno don

I think, until the era of "low profile tires", during the mid to late 80's, the 155 x 165 tire setup was probably THE setup....maybe 185/70's in the rear on some cars (ie Gary Berg's car ran CN36 Pirelli 185/70)
Then the low profile thing came to light in the mid 80's, and then the 135/145 front, 205/215 70-series rear in the early to mid 90's....probably to mimic the look of drag slicks. Personally, this car is memorable....not my taste, but it does stand out and always will to me. Black and gold were so popular at this time, look at the GM "F-cars", how many Trans Ams and Z-28's were sold in THAT scheme? Porsche....even the stodgy Germans...didn't they offer the Carrera 2.7 and Carrera 3.0RS in black with gold "carrera" scripts and matching mags? It does look dated now.....unlike so many other lookers of the era. Again, the car stood, and still stands out, and you have to admit, was quite an accomplishment.
Just my little tiny opinion.  ;D

Same here. I think it's not really a cal-look anymore...

not too keen on the suicide doors myself, otherwise this car is a great achievement in building up a car. but i wouldn't have done the gold as well. in my opinion it is just a step too far for being a racecar, but then again a little thinking outside the box is what we all want to achieve...
