the "old" street eliminator heads, from the 80's, SCS used to sell "black" heads I think they were sold as their competition eliminators. What was the difference?

Jim,

The color!  Seriously,  When I had my aluminum SE heads, I compared them to "Big Frank's" Comp SE heads, and there was no difference in porting, valve seats, guides, etc.  The combustion chamber was a bit shallower (can't remember if Frank cut them or not), but beyond the color to combat "competition" heat, I saw no difference.

I believe its the heat treating, some don't sand blast the black away..... but I may be wrong......
