Ok i will start with two from Bournemouth where i live.

Robert Louis Stevenson best known as the author of Treasure Island was published in 1883 and it was in August the following year that Stevenson arrived in Bournemouth. Stevenson had tuberculosis and was attracted by the town's reputation as a health resort.

It was at Skerryvore the family home that, to use his own words, Stevenson lived "like a weevil in a biscuit". In other words, despite his poor health, he dug himself in and bored away at his work, pouring words on to the page day after day, month after month. He found Bournemouth's heaths and pine woods inspiring and the landscape reminded him of his native Scotland. 'Kidnapped' and 'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' were among several works written at Skerryvore.

Also Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley she was the author of the novel Frankenstein. Shelley and other family members are buried in a large family vault in St Peter's churchyard here in Bournemouth.






 

Where I am originally from is a little town called Woodville. It is a little south of where I presently live, Tallahassee which is the capital of Florida. Woodville is most famous for the Battle of Natural Bridge where a hand full of old men, wounded CSA soldiers and young cadets managed to turn back a large invading force of US troops. Natural Bridge is an area where the St. Marks river goes underground and is the only place a large force could ford the river. (All the bridges had been burned down.) This small group of soldiers held this natural land bridge against a much larger better armed force for three days. They inflicted enough casualties that the leader of the Northern army was forced to retreat to the safety of his ships at the river's mouth. This left Tallahassee as the only southern state capital not captured during the War Between the States. (Also called the War of Northern Aggression here in the south or as the US Civil War by northerners.)

The city that I´m from is well known for producing some of the best cars available. Many years ago some of the cars we all love so much have been produced in my hometown Wolfsburg. 8)

The town that I live is home to one of the most popular US Football Teams in world - the Green Bay Packers.  The team was one of the very first teams and started out as the "Acme Packers".  The 2008 Superbowl-bound Packers enjoy an incredibly loyal fan base which had been known to follow the team to away games.  At a recent away game with against the St. Loius Rams it was said that there were more than 27,000 Packer fans at the game.  They are the only team in the NFL owned by the community.  In other words, they are not owned by an individual or corporation.  Fans purchase stock.  Oh, and they sell out every home game they play with over 74,000 seats.

Green Bay is also famous in the paper industry.  Some of the world's biggest paper manufactures have plants here including Georgia Pacific and Protor & Gamble.  While the industry has shifted production away from Green Bay, these companies continue to be a major source of employment for area residents.

People here really enjoy their outdoor sports - year around.  This time of year snow mobiles are huge along with ice fishing, ice races and cross country skiing.  In warmer months golf is huge as is soccer and various running and biking events.

There's decent automotive action between April and October.  There's a multifunctional race track about 30 minutes south of Green Bay, and the area has several car shows featuring mostly American cars.  VW's are definitely rare up here, and tend to get a lot of attention.   ;D 

All we have here is a life size fiberglass cow in middle of town :-\


But we do have a sucky football team that beat the Packers TWICE this year!

Ouch.  That hurt. :D  Gotta admit they sucked both games...

I grew up in the small town of Fremont, California (pop. 215,000) in the northern most part of Silcon Valley near San Francisco. It is known to be the earliest home of California's motion picture industry. Charlie Chaplin filmed the silent picture "The Tramp" in the Sunol district. The once great Baylands Raceway was in Fremont. It's an Auto Mall now.  Fremont is also home to Olympians Kristi Yamagughi and Steve Lewis, MC Hammer, MLB pitcher Dennis Eckersley, and my high school classmate Underworld & Underworld :Evolution director Len Wiseman.

In 2003 I moved north to Grants Pass, Oregon. World famous for the Rogue River, the Steelhead trout and Chinook Salmon fishing and rafting. Rooster Cockburn starring John Wayne and River Wild starring Meryl Streep were filmed in Hellgate Canyon on the river.

Virgil Earp (Wyatt Earp's brother) came to Prescott to heal up after the gunfight at the O.K. Corrall, he actually went to Dearing Ranch where I used to live when I was a child. Prescott was also the territorial capital of Arizona before it became a state in 1912. Prescott was founded on mining, logging, and ranching and I suppose is still known for Whiskey Row, a chain of bars that run right through the middle of downtown.

Well the only thing I can think of is the fact that I went to the same school as these guys  ;) :)

We also have probably the largest antique auto flea market in the world here every October, the AACA Fall Meet. 

My hometown is Pasadena, California.  We are about to celebrate our annual Tournament of Roses  http://www.tournamentofroses.com/,  which is a festive parade of flower and plant covered floats, marching bands, equestrian units, the NCAA (college football) Rose Bowl and other events taking place during December.  It is quite a sight to behold.

Pasadena is also home to California Institute of Technology (one of the best universities in the U.S.), Jet Propulsion Laboratories, the Norton Simon Museum of Art, the Huntington Library and numerous other cultural gems and diverse business'.

Historically, because of it's gentle climate, the city was used in the 1800's and early 1900's as a vacation spot for the wealthy who lived on the east coast of the U.S..  There are many historical areas and neighborhoods (many highlighting the Craftsman or California Spanish style of homes) and it stands at the base of Mount Wilson, where there is an observatory and great hiking and mountain biking trails.  In these same mountains, a wealthy easterner named McPherson once built the Mount Lowe Railway  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Lowe_Railway , a funicular that rose from Pasadena up into the mountains.

For nostalgic types like us, there are many auto and antique collectors here, two huge monthly flea markets that cater to collectors, the homes of legendary speed shops like Competition Engineering and Blairs Speed Shop, Bursch exhaust systems, the now defunct MG Mitten and other cool haunts.

Pasadena is also a popular city for many film and television productions.

I grew up in Pleasanton, California, about 35 miles east of San Francisco. A few things that may or may not be notable... it was an unruly "wild west" town in the 1800's, the streets bloodied from gunfights among prospectors and bandits. Some of downtown Pleasanton still has that "old west" feel to it, though less today than when I grew up there in the 1970's-80's. According to some old legends, there are some secret tunnels cut underground of downtown, used by city officials and well-to-do's to get from place to place in the 1800's, the most famous from Kottinger's shed to the Pleasanton Hotel. As far as more modern fame, I remember John Madden, of Raiders and football fame, lived in the country club neighborhood at the west end of Pleasanton, Castlewood. A friend of mine all through elementary school and high school, Tim Narducci, became lead man for a few metal bands, including Systematic. I remember him better as gutiarist for garage bands Mayhem, Oblivion and Tyrranicide. And Pleasanton was the birthplace for murder-punk band Syphon, the absolute worst music group ever formed.

Now I live in Simi Valley, CA, at the extreme east end of Ventura County, just bodering with San Fernando Valley. Only few things I know about Simi Valley's fame, "Little House on the Prairie" was filmed somewhere out here, and the infamous Charles Manson family that murdered actress Sharon Tate and her friends, they took residence very near my place, up on Rocky Peak, at the Spahn Movie Ranch. Creepy through there.

Congleton became notorious in the 1620s when bear-baiting was a popular sport. Congleton owned an old and rather decrepit bear and was unable to attract large crowds to their bear-baiting contests, but also lacked the money to pay for a new and more aggressive bear. It did however have a sum of money saved to buy a new bible. The town decided to use the money in the bible fund to pay for a new bear, and then replenished it with the income from the increased number of spectators. However, when the story was reported to neighbouring towns, it got corrupted and the legend grew that Congleton had sold its bible in order to buy a new bear

DRUGS. And trafficing to 3 Borders, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.

Here's something I found on-line that explains it:
In 1920, the Indian Packing Company was purchased by the Acme Packing Company. Acme continued its support of Lambeau's team, and in its first season in the NFL the team wore jerseys with the words "ACME PACKERS" emblazoned on the chest.

Sandefjord 120 km's south west of Oslo. A small coastal city with 150 km's of coast line, today its home to 40.000 citizens.
It started out as a health resort for the rich around 1830s, but what its really known for in Norway is that is was base of most all south antarctic whaling expedition's launched form Norway.
That business died of during the sixties, and the now most significant businesses is the paint factory of Jotun, and the three biggest web shops in Norway.
The city has a international airport, and a Ferry link to Sweden.

The biggest and best preserved Viking ship, The Gogstad ship, was found 1km from my house.

Now THAT is strange!! A small world it seems, the company "Evensen" that operated the trucks for Jotun has recently restored one of the "nose" Scanias for display. Exactly like the one in you pic.

They're the worlds largest free standing wooden structures. The picture does not give an idea pf the size of them. Each one would hold 6 blimps. Later they were used for helicopters, They would fly the 'copters into the hangers for repairs.

My hometown is mostly known about the Pori Jazz Festivals (http://www.porijazz.fi/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/lang,eng (http://www.porijazz.fi/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/lang,eng)). It´s going to be held here for the 43rd time. It started at 1966 and these days i think it´s the biggest festival in Finland. The legends like Miles Davis, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, BB King, Chuck Berry,   Buena Vista Social Club presents: Ibrahim Ferrer etc... And the more mainstream stars such as Erykah Badu, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, The Roots, De La Soul and the list goes on. You have to check out the "JazzHistory" part from the pages and find out. And to understand why it´s so BIG festival, lets put it this way... My towns population is about 80 000 and for the two weeks that the festival are on ,we have about 250 000 guests in here every year.  ;) So if you want to come and see great bands playing, let me know, i could accommodate you really easy.  ;D

Lostwithiel, Cornwall: formerly the capital of Cornwall and heart of the tin mining industry. Tin was brought here and weighed etc for sale. The railway station had large sidings with engine sheds designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, probably Britain's greatest engineer of all time. Used to have eight pubs (now there are only five – I currently own one of the 'lost' pubs [dating back to 1640] and used to live in another!). The River Fowey flows through Lostwithiel and is still tidal at this point. Until the river silted up, Lostwithiel was the most important tin and china clay port in Cornwall. Hard to believe that today. What else? Oh, the bridge is medieval, one of the decisive battles of the English Civil War was fought here – and I live here!

I wonder what measurement of size they're using. If the stats I use are correct then the Tustin Hanger is larger than Tillamook.

Anaesthetics


James Simpson, an Edinburgh physician, was the first doctor to use anaesthetics to relieve the pain of surgery in the mid 19th Century. His main objective at the beginning was to alleviate the pain that women felt in childbirth. There was strong opposition to this idea from the Church, because the Old Testament claims that God's punishment to women for the sins of Eve was that they should bring forth children in pain.
Fortunately for women everywhere, Simpson won this argument. I despise the recent trend in the USA for impressionable pregnant women to refuse any painkillers during delivery. Their fear of harming the baby with the drugs often means a longer birth and more trauma to the baby than a quick painless birth.

Antisepsis
Joseph Lister, Professor of surgery at Glasgow University, was the first to realize that the high post-operative mortality of his patients was due to the onset of bloodpoisoning (sepsis) caused by micro-organisms. Operating theatres were not the pristine places they are today. In the early 19th century, they were awash with blood and amputated body parts. In 1865 Lister found that carbolic acid was an effective antiseptic.

Brownian Movement
Botanist Robert Brown observed small specks of pollen suspended in a liquid were continually dancing around in a haphazard way. Buicks
Buick is the brand name stamped on over 25 million cars in the USA. This car is the named after David Dunbar Buick, a Scot who immigrated to the U.S. in 1856. Buick started out as a plumber at age 15, and is credited with developing a method for bonding enamel to cast iron; a process responsible for our blue bathtubs and pink sinks. But David's passion was the internal combustion engine. In 1899, in the city of Detroit, he formed the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company, manufacturer of gasoline engines. David also patented a carburetor and designed an automobile, but business debts and failed investments prevented him from realizing profits from his inventions. He died, impoverished, in 1929. But General Motors saluted his inventiveness in 1937 when it adopted the Buick name and family crest for its new line of cars.

John Boyd Dunlop patented his pneumatic tyre in 1888. He was a vetinary surgeon, but his interest in inventions led him to develop the tyres for his son's bicycle. He lived long enough to see his invention become the foundation for a huge industry around the world.

Alexander Crum Brown (1838 - 1922) was born in Edinburgh. After studying in London and Leipzig, he returned to the University of Edinburgh in 1863. Decimal Point
The notation we use today first appeared in a book called "Descriptio" by the Edinburgh mathematician, John Napier, Laird of Merchiston, in the 1616. He used a decimal point to separate the whole number part from the decimal number part. Known as 'Marvellous Merchiston", he published many other treatises including "Mirifici logarithmorum" (1614) and Rabdologia (1615) on systems of arithmetic using calculation aids known as Napiers Bones. Other achievements include his revolutionary methods for tilling and fertilising soil. Halloween
Americans think they invented it. Certainly, they commercialized the hell out of it, and pushed down our throats. What used to be a quaint and charming way of getting pocket money to buy fireworks for the 5th of November has turned into a mass-marketing of bite-sized snickers bars. But back hundreds of years ago, in Scotland and Northern England, there was no street lighting, and nothing to light your way home in the countryside when it got dark at 4 pm on the cold afternoon of October 31st. People were scared of the ghosts, witches, and evil spirits that rose from their graves, or hell, to wander abroad on the eve of All Hallows (November 1st - you know - Disney showed it in the scary bit near the end of Fantasia). So folk decided it might be possible to escape the notice of these evil beings if they dressed up like a ghost or a witch themselves on Halloween. That's where the tradition came from - wear a disguise so the ghouls will think you're one of them, and you'll get home safely on Halloween.
Later, with the Victorian era, a bit of gas lighting in the streets, a bit of scientific education and enlightenment, people pretended that they didn't believe in witches, ghosts and evil spirits anymore, and the custom was donated to children. It became a fun night, and kids were encouraged to dress up, go round to their neighbours houses, and do "a turn" or a party-piece to amuse the adults. This was called "guising" from the word disguise. In return, the kids were given a treat or some money. Party games such as ducking for apples were laid on as well. There was never any "tricking". You only got a treat if you did your turn first, by singing a song, playing a tune on a mouthorgan or recited a poem.


The Historical Novel


This literary form was "invented" by Sir Walter Scott, author of "Ivanhoe", "Rob Roy" and many other historical novels. It may be argued that there are earlier examples from Japanese literature, but these were not known about in the west. So in the literary tradition of Europe and America, Scott was an innovator.

Iron Bridges
Engineer Thomas Telford is famous for building more than 1200 bridges, many of them using cast iron. Other major achievements of his include the Caledonian Canal, the Menai suspension bridge, and the London to Holyhead road. As a road builder he ranked second only to McAdam. Maxwell's Equations in Electromagnetism
Nobel prize winning physicist Richard Feynnman said that a thousand years from now the 1860s will be remembered not for the American Civil War which will be a mere footnote in history, but for Maxwell's mathematical description of electromagnetism. James Clerk Maxwell(1831 - 79), who was known as "daftie" Maxwell as a schoolboy at the Edinburgh Academy, became a professor of physics by the age of 21. He created the electromagnetic theory of light, and interpreted Faraday's electromagnetic field mathematically. He correctly predicted the existence of radio waves later confirmed experimentally by Hertz. Maxwell made important contributions to the study of heat and the kinetic theory of gases.

Radar Defense System
Physicist, Sir Robert Watson-Watt, was the mind behind the radar network on the coast of England that detected incoming German aircraft in World War II. He had worked on the radio detection of thunderstorms (hazardous to aviators) during World War I. In 1935 he proposed a method for locating aircraft by a radio-pulse technique. The radar system was invaluable to the defense of Britain during the Battle of Britain in 1940. It operated day and night over a range of 40 miles, giving the Royal Air Force information about the height and bearing of German planes.

Refrigerators
James Harrison, who emigrated to Australia from Scotland, invented a cooling system for a brewery in Bendigo, in 1851. He had noticed that ether had a cooling effect on metals, and so he pumped it through pipes. As the ether evaporated it took heat from its surroundings to provide the latent heat of evaporation. His idea was used in the first refrigerated ship, the SS Strathleven, which carried a cargo of meat from Australia to England, a voyage of several months, in 1876. Refrigeration was a major force in the economic development of both Australia and New Zealand.

Planet Neptune
In 1846, the brilliant mathematician, John Adams, calculated where a hitherto undiscovered planet would be based on the anomalous motion of Uranus around the Sun. Unfortunately, his boss would not allow him the use of the university observatory to confirm his prediction, and he was beaten to the post by the French. That planet is Neptune.

The Steam Engine
Invented by James Watt, instrumental in powering the Industrial Revolution in the Eighteenth Century. His engine was not mobile, but was fixed in position. Soon it was being built and used in mining, to pull coal carts up to the pithead. Mine manager, John Blenkinsop, put one of these steam boilers on wheels so that it could carry the coal further. This came to the attention of George Stephenson who was also a mining engineer. Stephenson took the idea a stage further with his invention of the steam locomotive.

John Roebuck of Prestonpans, near Edinburgh, invented the lead chamber process for the distillation of sulphuric acid. Sulphuric acid is of central importance in the manufacture of many other chemicals and in metal refining.

Thermos bottles (Dewars)
Sir James Dewar (1842 - 1923) invented the dewar flask to keep liquids cool in the laboratory. The idea became the domestic thermos flask, which keeps hot liquids hot as well as cold things cold by isolating them from their surroundings, thus reducing the flow of heat. His scientific career was noted for his pioneer work on low temperature physics and vacuum techniques. He was the first to liquify hydrogen.

The telegraph
The Scots Magazine first published the concept for the telegraph in 1753. An anonymous contributor suggested that words could be spelled out along a 26 wire system activated by static electricity. The receiver had twenty six pith balls, each with a different letter of the alphabet. The pith balls would be attracted to their corresponding charged wires when the wires were activated with static electricity. The state of technology was not up to the task until Volta invented the electric battery in 1800, however.

Television
A photo-mechanical device invented by John Logie Baird in 1922. He set up the first practical television system in the world in 1929, in Britain. In 1935 Baird worked with the German company, Fernseh, to start the world's first 3-day per week television service.


In 1908, another Scot, Alan Campbell-Swinton, outlined the use of the cathode-ray tube for transmission and reception that is used in modern television. This method replaced Baird's in the 1930's.

Adam Ferguson (1723 - 1816) Born in Logierait, Perthshire, he became Professor of Moral Philosophy at Edinburgh. He introduced the method of studying humankind in groups and is father of the subject now called "Sociology".

Patrick Ferguson (1744 - 1780) Born in Pitfour, Aberdeenshire, Ferguson invented the breech-loading rifle, which was capable of firing seven shots per minute. With the help of this weapon, the Americans were defeated at the Battle of Brandywine (1777). He was killed at the Battle of King's Mountain in South Carolina, USA.

Around 1815 William Nicol (lecturer of natural philosophy at the University of Edinburgh) had used Canada balsam to cement pieces of fossil wood or minerals onto a glass plate and then ground the sample down to slices so fine you could see through them with a microscope and discover all kinds of good stuff--like bubbles in crystals, which told you something of the way the minerals had been formed, or the cell patterns that showed what kind of plant the sample had come from. Prior to this, paleobotany (... the morphology of fossil plants) was a subject virtually untouched, except for some earlier research by another Scotsman."

Polarization of Light
In 1828, William Nicol discovered polarization of light (the effect that makes polarized sunglasses useful). He stuck two bits of an Iceland spar crystal together and invented the Nicol prism. Iceland spar splits a beam of light into two polarized rays, with the transverse electromagnetic waves vibrating in orthogonal directions in the two beams. If two Nicol prisms were used, when the second one was rotated, one of the polarized light rays coming through would dim and then cut off once it had rotated through 90 degrees.

Navy of Chile
brought to life and success by Thomas, Lord Cochrane, a Scotsman. You can read about his exploits in the book "With Cochrane the Dauntless" by G.A. Henty. In the preface to this book, Henty writes: "Cochrane's life was passed in one long struggle on behalf of the oppressed. He ruined his career in our (the British) navy, and created for himself a host of bitter enemies by his crusade against the enormous abuses of our naval administration, and by the ardour with which he championed the cause of reform at home. Finding the English navy closed to him he threw himself into the cause of oppressed nationalities. His valour and genius saved Chile from being reconquered by the Spanish, rescued Peru from their grasp, and utterly broke their power in South America. Similarly, he crushed the Portuguese power in Brazil and ensured its independence, and then took up the cause of Greece."

Naval History of Chile states: " Alvarez Condarco managed to enroll Lord Thomas Cochrane, later the tenth Earl of Dundonald, as commander in chief of the Chilean fleet. Cochrane was a Scot of very high reputation as a seaman. He had entered the Royal Navy at an early age and by the time he was twenty years old he was in command of the brig Speedy. Under his command the ship made a most successful cruise in the Mediterranean. Later he commanded a frigate and used his prize money to run for Parliament. There he became a sharp critic of abuses within the Navy. His own party decided to send him to sea and he was given the frigate Imperieuse in command of which he participated in the Battle of Basque Roads. Because of the timidity and indecisiveness of Admiral Lord Gambier-- whom Cochrane accused of incompetence-- his own brilliant performance achieved no result. When the Admiral was absolved, Cochrane had to resign from the Navy. He was later convicted of fraud in the stock market in 1814 and expelled from Parliament. He went to Chile in 1818 and upon his return, was pardoned in 1832, restored to the Navy list and gazetted Rear-Admiral of the Fleet. He had been offered a position in the Spanish Navy, but took Chile's offer instead.

"At Cochrane's insistence, Alvarez Condarco committed Chile to buy a 410 ton, 60 horsepower steam warship. The Admiral was so excited about the prospect of a ship that did not have to depend on the wind for its power that he contributed 15000 pesos out of his own pocket. The ship was christened the Rising Star. Cochrane's plan to sail her to Chile was never realized, however, because the ship-- the first steam warship ever built-- had not been properly designed and the boiler was too small to propel her. Since the miscalculation could not be easily remedied, Alvarez Condarco asked Cochrane to leave for Chile without delay, so that he could take immediate command of the squadron. The steamship would eventually reach Chile too late to participate in the struggle for Independence. When Cochrane arrived in Valpara’so, O'Higgins himself went there to greet him. The government and the people received him with great enthusiasm; they expected great things from him and were not be disappointed.

Cochrane was the model for Horatio Hornblower, in the popular series of books by C.S. Forrester.

The Cloud Chamber
was invented by Charles Thomson Rees Wilson (1869 - 1959) an eminent Edinburgh scientist. After observing optical atmospheric phenomena in the Highlands, he realized that condensation trails could be used to track and detect atomic and subatomic particles. The cloud chamber became an indispensible detection device in nuclear physics, and therefore he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1927. In addition to his research on atomic physics, Wilson studied atmospheric phenomena all his life and his work on the electrical behaviour of the atmosphere is the basis of our understanding of what is involved in thunderstorms.

I live in Hotton. It's a small Belgian village just at the beginning of the Ardennes. You know, that region which suffered a lot during WW2?
So, that's a place where the german offensive know under the name "Von Rundstedt" was stop during winter '.44. That's much know under the name of Battle of the Bulge by US guys.
There lot's of old house build in stone like the old mill still in function for tourist, it is also a place of vacation. (And I know that's Speedwell come there when he was younger  ;D )
But nothing really famous... Just a quiet and peaceful place to live.

the PO lice thought we were the culprits in some burglary that involved a "Blue Volkswagen". It was pretty interesting getting held @ gunpoint when your 400 miles from home (lived in Bay Area @ the time) and you have no fucking clue why.
they separated us and compared stories, and they matched, and then they were cool. However, the rest of the night, we were awake at Motel 6 listening to hookers and crack-dealers getting popped right out side our window.

I come from Plock in middle of Poland. The beutiffl city which is purched no the banks of the river Vistula (Wisla). Plock is famous of being a capital of Poland during the period of dark ages when 2 Kings lived there (also the quite old high school established in AD 1180 as I rember), there is also the biggest polish rafinery ORLEN (Petrochemia was called before) and the most expensive fuel :) in Poland 1,26 Euros per liter at the moment :D (I know cheeper than in the rest of Europe but comparing to typical wages... it is a lot).
From my home town come few propper musicans :) (on polish ground)  mostly punk and punk rock bands.

oh and I forgot the most importand thing :) the girls from Płock are really beutifful :D (as all polish women).

Oakland, Ca- City I moved to during highschool. Crappy, dirty, depressing, no night life, known for drive bys where the only people injured are children playing in their houses caught in the crossfire. Oakland has a hold on crack dealing and prostitution.
Don't believe me? If I climb up on my roof at night I can see them strolling up and down San Pablo avenue. One day I'll post some of the pictures I've snapped from up there.

San Clemente California.  Speaking of Nixon...... ha.  His western white house "Casa Pacifica" is here.  But we are definately most famous for our fantastic surf spots, like Trestles, T street, and San Onofre.  We are also known to have the best climate in the world.  Avg year round temp is 68.  No need for an air conditioner this close to the water...........
Also, it is the first master planned community in the US.  woo hoo.
Oh, and there are few decent looking girls here too.

When I was really small, my family had gone up to Scotland for a summer holiday. We were driving through St Andrews golf course (the main road runs through the middle) when a golfer just stepped out into the road. Dad hit the brakes and the golfer looks up and waves his hand in apology. It was Sean Connery! We were all quite amazed that James Bond would be so easy for SPECTRE to kill... :D

Growing up as a kid in Riverside, everyone talked about the Navel Orange Industry. In 1870s the first hybrid navel orange trees in the United States (from Brazil) were planted in Riverside CA.
It became one the centers of the Citrus production in SoCal.

Riverside Raceway was a pretty famous too, saw Lots of Drags, Iroc and Can-am races there. Dig that straight away over a mile long!

Now I live in Ontario -- famous for a speedway -- which held some great concerts
and then was torn down to make room for the Ontario Mills a HUGE outlet mall.
How big -- if you walk one circuit of the mall, you've walked 1 mile. Oh yeah,
we have an airport here, with Fontana in our backyard, 4 freeways pass thru the
city. NFL Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz / Cincinnati Bengals went to Ontario High.
