Hi guys, I would like to buy the Magneto. There are three type of it, Vertex, Hunt, Scintilla, so which is the best one for a drag motor?

Hi Mauro,

Most Magneto's are Vertex Scintilla's and where build in Switzerland....

Joe Hunt or Don Zig take these Magnetos an Modify them for Racing...

Up To You which Manufacturer Plate you Prefer, but I would go for a Joe Hunt...

If I give a magneto to Joe Hunt will they modify it for me? What do they do to it? How much does it cost? Which magneto is best to have, Vertex, Scintilla? I would email them but the website is down!

Yes, I have found some answers!!
An other question: with magneto can I set the rev limiter easily and how can I do it?

What Joe Hunt goes is what you want them to do.
What they CAN do is give you a new ignition curve, the available are 12° and 6° or fixed. They can allso recharge the magnets in the magneto so they are like new. A magneto must be used once in a while to keep its magnets fresh... I have heard.
If you plan on hitting high revs, who aren’t, you must order extra springs to the points to stiffen it up.

And that is pretty much it, there isn't anything more to do to them...  but you should add a magneto clamp... or your engine case will take a beating, because these things are heavy!

To mount a ordinary Tach to them you need a signal converter from either Autometer, Joe Hunt(relabelled autometer) or Don Zig (relabelled autometer). Or you can buy a Magneto Tach from Autometer.

To adjust the magneto ignition correctly you need a smal electronic gizmo they sell at both Joe Hunt and Don Zig...  some has had luck with very low quality strobe pistols too.

And I have just found out that www.summitracing.com has Vertex parts in their shop... I'm ordering parts tonight for my Vertex.

010 vs Magneto, who is the winner? I know that with magneto I can run without battery for to improve the car weight, and nothing else?

I use the Autometer Pro Control 5302 and it works good.

But this unit needs 12V, without voltage the Mag is connected to ground. So you have to use a small motorcycle battery and you need some people to push your car to get your machine started...

Ole, what kind of tach do you use with the magneto?

I'm thinking on fixing my procontroller to have lauch RPM to...  any ideas on this?

this is my 80th Vertex-Autometer and "sticker"-collection. All vintage 80th. Nothing added or missing since then.
(OK. I`m a poser  ;D)

so I must have a controller....mmmmm....I don't like it. Now I have the MSD Ignition 6AL but it is too modern. I would like to race without electronic help or with little help, like in the 1969. What do you advise to me?

Don't worry Mauro, the only thing the procontrol does for you is prevent you from blowing up your engine... and slow you down due to added weight.. hehe
If you want it periode correct you should look for the earliest model, wich is shaped like a cylinder... If I remember correctly.
