I remember back about 1990 or so and that car ran a big old S&S 1-3/4" race header with a really cool 3" muffler tucked up under the RH valve cover, and exiting with a big fat no-nonsense pipe right next to jack support on RH side (under running board). I've seen the car running QP muffs and for the longest time the big Dynomax out back.

Wickedest car.  ;)

Yes, and I think it is an S&S header and mufflers

Dave is the life of the party...actually, Dave IS the party ;D!  Hopefully, Bill and Danny will weigh in here with some good stories.  My favorite was when a "delegation" of photogs came for a visit to the Dairy Queen and egged Dave into doing a burn-out in the DQ parking lot...those old brakes barely stopped him from an Orangethorpe T Bone!  :o ;D 8)

I remember being at a Drag Day a few years ago with Steve Beecher of DKP.
Steve forgot to bring "racing clothes" and they wouldn't let him run without long pants, etc..
Dave Mason was pitting next to us in his camper.
So Steve ended up racing all day in Dave's pajamas !

One of my favourite cars this - not to shiny, not fancy in any way... plain, simple AND fast! Where is the nozzles? I guess on the back of the manifolds?

Thanks for the pics.

Hey Sarge, guys. Motor is a 1915cc, 80 HP nitrous shot, Tims heads, scat crank, 48 IDA's big chokes, A-1 sidewinder w/ custom dump out, Rancho gearbox w/ 1:58 3rd 1:21 4th etc., etc. Porsche alloys or Flat-4 BRMs and bumper or t-bars depending on the mood. Bill, Greg B., Dave M. and I have been buddies since high school, along with Danny G., DKK Rick and several others from the DKK days. I helped build and drove Brinton's SS car waaaaayyyyyy before it was in the mags along with several other cars from the 80's. Here are some old pics that I have on hand.

One of the coolest things about Daves car (and so many of the other DKP cars) is that they are not perfect.  Looking at the cars in the magazine back in the mid 90s I was totally intimidated by them.  Once I saw them for the first time in 1998, it was comforting to realize that most of them had small chips and the bodywork wasnt concours quality.  This was something that I could achieve!

These cars are used hard - well maintained - but used hard.  They all have an honest patina, which is refreshing in this age of $75,000 cal-look cars!  Sometimes I look at my car in the garage and notice the paint chips and stone stars from rocks being thrown off my slicks.  I feel like I need to tear it apart and "restore" it again, and once again cars like Dave's become an inspiration that honest wear and tear is nothing to be ashamed off.

To me a car with that "honest patina" is much more impressive than those $70,000 trailer queens. Battle scars are nothing to be ashamed of. And at least you know those cars can actually back up the image.
