Title: Cladwell Recaps

It is really too bad they are no longer being reproduced. Someone needs to come out with a good substitute. Just a great looking tire.

Yeah,
you are right.  It sucks that we cant even get the Firestone Slicks that they were made from anymore.   :(

Truth be told, as good as they looked, they were not very good.  HEAVY!!!!   :)

I've been in contact with hurst racing tires in oregon. http://www.hurstracingtires.com/index.html (http://www.hurstracingtires.com/index.html) I just need to get some old castings - don't feel like having a new pair of phoenix slicks experimented on. They seem to think it is possible from all the pictures I sent them, the just want to have a tire to play with. Hopefully I will have a tire to them this spring - keep you informed

Rob

Very cool tires on the Hurst site.   Would it be  possible to have them capped on a radial casing instead of the slicks?   Thanks for the link to the site    Bill

Hey Bill,

They said that they could do both. I got the site from a guy that Lanny and I met in seattle. He owns that black dart that is on the gallery page. Pretty cool car up close.

I had a set which belonged to Ben Salazar, and I agree that they looked neat, but were worthless.  One of them mounted to a deep 6 fuch was 11 ounces out of balance.  Made the tire machine jump around a bunch.  Got tossed out of the tire shop.

I wish I did'nt sell mine , they worked ok at the track, when everybody started picking up the performance in the mid to late 90's most everybody switched over to slicks.  They sure looked mean and worked just fine on the street.

Whoa, very cool site. Did everyone see the recapped 165R15 and 195/75/15. Wonder what those would look like on beetle :o

Very interesting that they recap, quality, modern suv/truck tires.

That is a cool site.  I love fingertip slicks, but they are really a late 50's - mid 60's era tire.
