Title: Lets see your rear end!!! Post by: Prowagen on January 13, 2008, 22:15:49 pm Ok guys I am looking for inspiration on my project before I go to crazy with the angle grinder!
Can you please post up pics of your removable rear end on a bug? I will still be running a decklid and valance so mainly want to see stock based ideas! Thanks guys, Rob. Title: Re: Lets see your rear end!!! Post by: Neil Davies on January 14, 2008, 11:10:22 am I might have a couple of pictures at home of Headstraight, although I think you can see it in one of the pictures in the Total VW feature, if you've got that. The back end had already been cut off when I bought the shell, but I added a couple of extra Dzus fasteners to stiffen it up. Done something similar to my '70, but as I was using a piece of an NOS rear quarter I had bought, I couldn't cut as close to the firewall as I would have liked. Again, might have some pictures at home, if not I'll try to grab some on my phone tonight.

Title: Re: Lets see your rear end!!! Post by: Paul Bate on January 15, 2008, 16:55:22 pm Hello Rob,
The wings are bolted on every other hole and if the 2 highest bolt holes on the wings are slotted, you can leave cap headed bolts with a big washer loose. With the wheels off you can then slot the wing over with the back and the wing is supported, then you can do it on your own with ease. The wing beading is pop riveted to the wings so it still has that standard look ! Oh yes it's solid 4x 8mm stainless cap heads bolted through the inner panel to the supportive plate you can see in the photo. Good Luck Regards Paul Bate Ps the launch photo was only used because I couldn't find another shot ! Hello, I hope this helps the rear end inner quarters and rear valance are all one piece. I will be cutting soon, but it will be a while before I am ready to assemble it all, so perhaps I could check out your setup at one of the OFF meets. Thanks, Rob. Title: Re: Lets see your rear end!!! Post by: bigwigracecars on January 17, 2008, 03:21:56 am Here's a few of one I did a while back. I can't seem to find a good shot of everything removed. There's a small framework made from chromoly tubing that mounts to the engine case. It ties the two fenders together and provides a center mount for the bottom of the decklid. Very stable - no shaking.

Rob. Title: Re: Lets see your rear end!!! Post by: Neil Davies on January 18, 2008, 11:38:03 am Had a look at my old photos - nothing really showing the back end of Headstraight, but it did look much like Pauls. Interestingly, I also used a tube arangement like Ric Big Wig, braced off the heads and stinger flange to hold the bottom of the decklid and wings. I even had a fibreglass valance, but never got around to mounting that!
