How come beer sold in green bottles taste like goat piss?

Goat piss or SHEEP piss??

It has to do with the fact that darker bottles block out more light than the lighter color bottles. The light causes changes in the beer's chemical composition causing it to break down faster in the green bottles. Yes I just made that up, I really have no idea.

Beer in plastic bottles? Sounds right up there with wine in plastic bags. Beer in cans is bad enough. Should be against the law.

Here we have Jupiler in plastic bottles and i was quite suspicious about it too until i tried it. It actually tastes better than a can! no more metallic taste and the surface you are putting your mouth on was covered by a cap until you opened it. you never know where your can has been before you drink it...  :-\

I follow you when you say beer in a can sucks, but I still think the jupiler in plastic bottles aren't good enough to drink too, just straith from the draft is still the best, or a bottle is acceptable too :D

I agree, Jim...I can safely say I've never really enjoyed beer in green either...now, where's the Bud?  ;D

I have to agree, mostly because "my" Beer comes in a brown bottle,...but it has a green label.

The local news is starting to talk about the fact that the price of hops is rising from $5/pound to $20/pound and the estimate is that a pint will increase in price $0.75 on average. This has been talked about now for a while. Looks like it will cheaper to drink diesel instead of my Sierra Nevada ale. The larger brewers will not be hit as hard.

Newcastle seems to escape the piss taste, depite being in a clear bottle.

Interesting thread! Especially for me, my profession is - brewaster! 8) Regarding the colour of bottles, I can say we only produce beer in brown bottles... ;)

But did you know beer in green bottles can save life? Here's the story:

Some time ago I worked at a brewery at Switzerland. There I met a guy who's friend was working at a brewery on some caribbean island (forgot the name...). The reason why they had beer in green bottles on that island was simple. You have to know, on that island they have no street lights. This means the nights are very dark, literally black, and so is the colour of the skin of the island's natives. If you drive by night the only way to recognize people on the road is the green bottle in their hands...

OK, this works with brown bottles too, but then you have to put reflectors on the labels...

If the beer tastes bad from a green bottle, you should try it from a plastic bottle. Here in Finland the biggest beer manufacturer has started to bottle the beer in these plastic bottles. I just tasted it last weekend and it´s horrible. I just can´t get the feel out from the plastic bottle.

Like Rolling Rock or O'Douls?? Well that's cause it's what my moms ex husband...the alcoholic used to call "phony beer".
It's like soda for drunks I think...and if you're stuck out on a boat it's better to drink than some chemical agent used on a boat.
