Title: lexan headlights combined with a non-dechromed body?
Post by: wolfswest on January 21, 2008, 22:23:11 pm
Hi guys,

I followed the topic of Lee and I'm a great fan of the lexan headlights.  I see that most cars run a dechromed body but mine isn't...  Should I do it?  would the lexan headlights look nice on a "original body" with all the chrome on it?  pictures maby?

Lexan lights look super cool , BUT , as far as I understand it they were used to save weight on your race car\cal bug as glass is unnecessary baggage . So putting them on a car that could still lose a bit of weight buy loosing any unnecessary trim may look a little wrong .
 Just my 2 cents

I have seen a couple of "trimmed" cars with Lexan covers - there was a really nice 60's Turkis bug with them in volksworld a couple of years back, he had black lexan covers and this worked really well with the light coloured body work - just my 2 cents  :)

I can follow 49-rag his thoughts, that's why I can't make up my mind....  My car has T-bars, the stance and fuchs wheels and the colour is light green, so it could work...  I think.   :-\

Daniel Hood did that on his 61 ragtop. Except they were glass not plastic. Abd clear too. It looked just fine.

maybe I could try to make them in glass, should look good I think...  just clear ones, not smoked or green or yellow...  the smoked versions is realy agressive / race, so that is maybe "to much" for a trimmed car...

Nobody makes them for sale but would not be hard to make or have made. I like glass way more then plastic though.

bad part about glass is they are only 1/4 inch thick  on rock and its over and it can take out your h 4 headlights to thats why they use Lexan it wont break like glass or plexiglass

True, but a rock hit would probably damage plastic too. I never had trouble with glass. Plus if you use tinted plastic it will turn purple after awhile.
