I drove a 70 ghia with a hot 42 DCNF'd 1776, a 67 squareback, a 67 bug with a 1600 or my Dad's 68 bay window with a hot 1641.

A pile of crap 1969 bug i bought for $800, at night in the rain, man I was STOKED!  Dark Green, then I proceeded to "modify" it. header, primer, lowered it by pulled leaves, beauty rings. I actually stole a round wood door pull off one of the kitchen cabinets and stained it and put it on my shifter,...Dad was PISSED to say the least. That was about 1983.

a bunch of years later, built the green M&M out of that pile of turd,..and that was the beginning of the end.

Ok my first car was a '67 Mustang notchback V-8 2bbl. I followed that with a '71 Fiat 124 spyder. Then I bought my '67.

Had a POS 1641 with dual baby Dells, then 36 DRLA's, then 40 IDF's, Then 40 DRLA's and finally 45 DRLA's.  I guess I really liked tinkering with carburetors back then.  Towards the end of high school the motor was a Buggy House built 1776 with 1000 miles on it (which blew up 2 months before graduation)  >:(

The end of my Junior through my senior year I rolled to school in this while the Bug was being semi-restored and/or out of commission.  This was my 1971 Jaguar XJ6 with Chevy 454 big block conversion.

Same Beetle I drive today.

A '52 split with gold anadized center lines. Entered in the RG Canning car show indoor .Had a 2110cc , Berg crank, Lonnie Reed heads from THE HEAD SHOP, JET rods and one of the first Berg 5 out of the batch. At 17 I was HELL ON WHEELS! Used to race Taco's Chevy LUV truck with a small block V8. While he was still smoking his hides I was goonne! Ended up wraping the car around a telephone pole on a rainy day. :'( :'(

Likewise! It's changed a lot (well, only the roof, dash and rear quarters are the original car!) and my brother owned it for a while, but it's mine again now! ;)

1964 Yellow Baja Bug - Stock 1600   ;D

My same 1967 Bug, was zenith blue though, had 5.5" chrome wheels, non-crested hubcaps, 1641cc, dual 36mm Dellortos...etc. Stock height for most of the time.

In high school I drove a '99 Aprillia SR, 70cc tuned, everything from Malossi. Crank, iginition, vario, clutch, exhaust and gears. Made about 19 hp on the rear wheel.  Top speed I reached 142km/u with it. If you sat normal on it you got an automatic wheelie till 60km/u. Had great fun with it, was chased down by the cops a couple of times.  Picture below was before it was painted. Can't find photos of it when it was painted on my pc.

Junked loads of the 'chrome' crap, painted the wheels so they were all silver. Had a 1700 'big bore' piece of crap fromBig Boys Toys (I was young and didn't know any better  >:(). Went like a raped ape with the 1200 box (well quickest thing at college anyway  ;)).

Had loads of fun in it, stripped it for a resto nd then realised it was a) botched and a death trap and b) I couldn't weld, not know how the hell to put it back together  ;D

This,  Had great fun it it for a few years...
Built my own 1835 with stock heads a engle tsc10 and 44IDF webers for it.
Had one off my greatest road trips in it to the south off France (1500kms).

My '70 Beetle "in-Process".   :D

I also came home from the hospital as a new born in that same car.

My '67 Bug that I still have. Saved up $1200 as a sack monkey at the grocery store, and bought it August 8th right before my senior year started.

Wow! A friend of the family has an original '69 Boss 429 (Black Jade with 40,000 original miles) sitting in my uncles warehouse (for about 8 years now) covered in about 1/2 inch worth of dust.  Looks just like this one (just not as clean)

Jim and I smoked one of those, side by side up the Strohbridge I-580 entrance on our poker ralley. We had him up to about a hundred and he started puffing white smoke out of the exhaust.

Musta been a sick 429.  Those things were killers!

Castro Valley, California in the East Bay Area. It's an up hill on ramp, barely wide enough for 2 cars, that merges onto east bound 580 towards Pleasanton/Livermore.

66 Cal looker about 15 years after it had been built.  It was a bit rusty, but came with a 2165, IDAs, and was rolling on 16x6 and 15x6 fuchs.  We pulled the motor after the gland nut bearing seized to the input shaft and destroyed the crank.  It then got a 1600dp and a set of BRMs.  I drove it like that for a year or so, then tossed in a swap meet 1835, and an old school rajay turbo setup with sidedraft Zenith carb.  Lots of fun.  Drove it everyday, made awesome heat with stock heater boxes even during the 0*F weather.

Finished off my Senior year in a 66 21 Window bus that was found and pulled out of hibernation.  Got it on the road the day before Prom.  It rolled on a set of BRMs, but needed to be lowered.  Should have kept that thing...Graduated in 2004

When I got my own first car I rebelled a bit. This thing ('68 Monaro GTS) ended up with a 307ci-4sp, but it still couldn't catch the street Bug of my uncles, no chance of that!

First car was a gift from my grandparents a gas guzzling 61 Pontiac Bonneville.
Back in 1974 the first car I bought was a $400 64 VW sunroof.
It was a solid car till my construction "buddy" offered to carpet it for me.
He (we) used 100 short nails pounded into the pan and front and rear firewalls to hold the carpet down.
Bottom of the pan looked like a bed of nails.  :o
I'm sure it rusted out quickly with 100 holes in the floor and wet carpet.
When the 1200 blew up and we traded it in for a 69 bug.

thank you MG! I got the car for my 16th birthday in 1979, it was stock with chrome rims and a single port 1500. I lowered it and had wide 5 crestlines on it for awhile then went to the 14" alloys. I added a gene berg merged header, 010, kadrons and drove the crap out of it. I then installed a dave folts close trans and bad boy 1750cc with IDA's. I had the car for 28 years. I did a complete pan off and it was featured in HotVw's sep 2003. I have a 56 oval I am doing now.

Same here. I've only ever owned the one car.

I've owned over a dozen, but the only one I've still got is my first one. I even sold it to my brother and bought it back a few years later.

Didnt go to high school, started farming right after 10th grade. My first car was a ´65 1200, then I got into alfa Romeo´s. Then I went to commercial school and got a 1974 type 2 and became the "parts hauler" in that period  ;D

Anyway we managed it, but there are easier ways... :D

a 1946 Chevy Panel -- kinda looked worse than this one -- previous owner had cut huge holes in the side panels to put windows in, but discovered he had cut the holes about a foot to big LOL -- bought it for $50, drove it for 3 years and sold it for $35....... Never changed the oil! LOL

A 1989 To#¤ta pickup... 22-re with a top-end rebuild, 5 speed, 4x4. Bone-ass stock, base model without a tach, non-functioning AC, and a bench seat. I've driven 40-horse bugs with more get-up-and-go than that poor old truck, but that didn't stop me doing everything I could to destroy it. Overheated once or twice, blew the rear diff to smithereens, rear-ended someone with it, ran it into things for fun, and took it much further than I ever had a right to. Then my brother inherited it for a year, the transmission and starter went out, and it had to go away. Last I saw, it was sitting on the street on a freezing cold night in Downtown Denver about two years ago, looking much worse for the wear, but still covered in at least a few of our stickers. I still keep an eye out for it, my brother and our old friends have talked several times about taking out loans if we get the chance to get it back... Too many good memories to count. I think it'd make a perfect third car after my '67 and my lifted Subaru...

Great fun! Remember very well a surf trip to Denmark where we lost one mate to some girls on the ferry cruise over from Norway. He was not to be seen anywhere when they started to let the cars off the ferry. I quickly changed CD to Iron Maiden and cranked the volume up to max. It was so loud that the rear window popped out but at least he found the car just in time before it was our turn to leave.

I sold the car to a doctor but it turned out he was found of drinking. Sold it on a Friday and on Saturday evening he crashed into two new Chevrolet Starcraft vans and one of them mid ship. He managed to hide and since the car was still registered on me I had to pay for the damages. Or more precisely, my insurance company. I went on a trip just hours after selling the car. First to the Roskilde Festival then to some German islands to do some wind surfing and I was away for 5 weeks. This was of course long before any cell phones and facebook so guess who had to pay for the tow and the storage of the car? Yup... me. I sold the wreck, the engine and the stereo and it barely covered the bill.

Lesson learned - never sell a car to a drunk!
