Title: Sleeving lifter bores Post by: airstuff on February 02, 2008, 16:14:50 pm Hey guys,
I don't understand why is it needed and when is it needed to sleeve lifter bores on a new VW crankcase? Title: Re: Sleeving lifter bores Post by: Lee.C on February 02, 2008, 16:25:16 pm I guess the sleeve would wear and not the case - meaning these sleeves could be replaced if any wear occurs - Saving the case :)
just a guess mind you :) Title: Re: Sleeving lifter bores Post by: Steve D. on February 02, 2008, 17:00:27 pm Mag is soft and is a pretty lousy material for, well, anything- it is light though and that is cool.
Aluminum is hard Silicon Bronze is hard Both make stronger/better lifter bores. (here's my pitch) Brother's VW in Ontario, CA did my last case in Silicon Bronze for less than a hundred bux. so I stay with normal aftermarket lifters,or do I have to use any special lifters? Title: Re: Sleeving lifter bores Post by: Lee.C on February 02, 2008, 17:33:25 pm "Aluminum is hard
Silicon Bronze is hard Both make stronger/better lifter bores." I thought that might also be the case - pardon the pun ;) :) Title: Re: Sleeving lifter bores Post by: . on February 02, 2008, 18:49:35 pm Another reason is tighter tolerances need for higher RPM's.
