I voted for looking tidy, since it's more appropriate to my own situation  ;D

Though i think 2 liter engines are awesome, my preference goes to look neat!

Going fast! I'd love if it was shiny but I am on a limited budget and have limited time.
And longivity of course, but I have to admit that I have repaired my car this year. I once dropped a nut to one of the shocks and I had to tighten the pulley nut once.  :P

I always started with looking good and then moved on to going fast.

Probably the minority opinion!   ;)

Going fast in SSB style...???  You don't give me any alternative to chose...  I don't think a car needs to be ugly to go fast.
Fast and nice... twelves will do... whitout ercos... with ercos, elevens!! ;-)

Don't really see that this is a valid question. We drive lookers, they all look good...
So If I answered going fast I would still look good doing it, due to what I drive! :-)

Image is everything?

Your car looks good for other people, but it drives fast for you to enjoy

I would like to quote Winnie the pooh; Yes please, I take both!

Personally I would rather drive a fast and nice car rather than a faster, crappy looking car. I actually enjoy that people shows tumbs up and smiles to me when I drive my car. Heck, I even enjoy that they come over for a chat when I have parked my car. I`m pretty sure they wouldn`t do that if I had a noisy, rusty, shitty looking car... no matter how fast it was  :)

Isn t it first looking good and then going fast, cause the funds do not allow you to do both.
Well that s the case with me anyway... :(

But the end result should be both... ;)

For me it would be (and was) the same because of the funds: First looking good and then going fast!

This is a hard one ok if you got the money to do both that ok. But if you could only do one of them for me it would have to be. Going fast first you can always paint the car at a late date. Do all the fab work first making sure it all fixs and works then get it looking good.

That is what I meant... If you only have the $$$ to do one, which would you do first?

I just read something that brings new light to my question;

Its not how fast you go, its how you go fast.  ;D

Well I`ve had combinations of all of them. And I love driving a FAST VW but... with the penalties for street racing getting worse and worse everyday I`m leaning toward the look good but carry a small stick lately. I can`t afford a huge fine, having my liscense pulled, community service, car impounded and jail time I`m afraid I need to slow down a bit.

I don't have money to do both, so I'm begining with suspension/wheels/engine in that order, stance is everything, but you just need a hot engine to go with the stance oh well, paint will have to wait for the 2008 bugin  ;D

...just depending on what you define as "fast". For me a 15-16 sec. car is not "slow" and still is payable and reliable.
So if "15-16 sec" is "fast enough", then I would vote for looking good and then going fast. The SSB is such a cool
car-but as a street car, it looks to crappy imho.

Title: Re: Going fast or looking good?
Post by: bullitt on January 08, 2007, 16:27:45 pm
i quote gregor....i think 15 seconds are good for street car.

even if askin "speed or look" is just like asking "tits or ass"
who wouldn't want to have both?

i think cal look cars have to be fast not as last part of a little second but they have to be eye catcher.

this mean that look and speed count same way in a cal car in my opinion.

That is what I meant... If you only have the $$$ to do one, which would you do first?

It's vey simple, you wouldn't want to drive a shiny slow car, would you? I've driven both, shiny fast bugs and ratty fast bugs the impresion on the people's faces is still the same when you leave them like they're going the opposite way at the stop light.

You wouldn't be able to do this in a shiny slow car. Take a look at my 67 for sale, ask yourself, does it really need shiny paint work?
That's my view's anyway if you only have enough money to do one or the other.
A true Cal Look car is a one colour, no trim, nicely finished fast car that's with money permiting

RULE NO 1: BUILD YOUR SELF A MOTOR: BIG; HIGH COMPRESSION....LOT'S O POWER....try to make that thing live and while doing it trash gearboxes.....THEN WHEN THE MOTOR IS WORKING OK.....GET THE GEARBOX TO COPE........While doing that you end up racing...probably in a industrial area, and if you get away with no tickets or missups........YOU GET A SET OF NICE SHINY WHEELS WITH RACY RUBBER IN THE REAR AND NARROW LIKE A KNIFEBLADE IN THE FRONT.....................and your car starts breaking/winning and you want MORE, MORE, MORE......................................So after a long period of trashing and investing...there is probably no money left for the finish of the car, it sits right, it has attitude, it has ET to back it up but no finish and wallet is empty.....So I say SSB style....in style, but not broke!!!

 Looking Good!

Why? Because that's what a car does 100% of the time. The power is only visible when you're accellerating at the traffic lights or on a dragstrip...

(on the other hand a 1200 engine with turbo muffler for the looks would be pathetic as well...)
