Garage mostly now. But I have been known to have an entire disassembled engine stashed in the closet before.  ;D

Not a VW story, but you get the idea... There was this guy in high school who owned a Mustang 2+2, with A 289 4-Speed. Well, he wanted to build the engine to the hilt, as well as add wheels and tires, Hurst shifter, gears, gauges, Lakewood bellhousing, traction bars and on and on. Well, he had this brain storm, that his Mustang would be stolen, stripped, and then dumped near his house... He would make a claim on his insurance, and get enough money to buy all the goodies he wanted. Okay, so the car disappeared and three days later, it re-appeared bare. The insurance company paid, and away he went to Blair's Speed Shop and went crazy. Within weeks, he rebuilt this 'Tang into a killer street car.

The back story was he stole his own car... no, oh, really?, and stashed all the old original parts under the house in the crawl space. Years later, a 'Friend" ratted him to the police. They came out, looked under the house, and guess what? There was a Mustang in pieces under there. Imagine that. They hauled him away, and impounded the 12-second Mustang...

Nice story, Deano.

My "nice" stuff is up in the attic in the house for now.  All the parts for the 2110, a few of my better bits for the oval, etc.  Stuff in the garage has a chance to get ruined somehow.

Why on earth would you keep the parts  ??? Not that I'm that way inclined at all, but they would've long gone if that was me  ;D

You must remember that this Mustang was only two years old at the time. So, the parts were basically new and worth big money somewhere down the line, when the heat was off(?).

I've got my crap strewn across 3 states. I've got some junk 36 dells, gas tanks, crates full of early headlights, early ghia vert glass and boxes and boxes of head studs, pushrods, rockers, etc. and 20 used 87mm P&Cs at my Mom's in California, I've got a black 67 bug sitting on 4 wheel discs, a Collins built gear box and Fuchs, full to the roof with parts and a 42 DCNF'd 1776 at my Dad's in Alabama and 2 bugs (63, 65) and an IRS pan around the corner at a friends house, and 3 bugs (63, 64 and my 67) here at my house. I've got a 8 x 10 foot storage shed and a 500 sq. ft. shop full of crap too. I probably have other stuff at friends houses that I have forgotten about too. My computer/ roll top desk has 6 drawers and 4 of them are full of VW parts. My machinist tool box at work has a drawer full of VW parts. I have a racer spacer in my jacket pocket and some tin screws in my front pant pocket.

I keep shit everywhere. ;D

I stored the parts everywhere. I rebuilt my disc front beam in my front room during winter when was cold in a carage, all nice pieces were in my bedroom and living room and I ended up building the engine in a kitchen! I had my NOS 48 DRLAS in my work on the desk as a decoration and all parts I ordered went to my workplace too. Colleagues were impressed at least :-DD

Anymore I keep most everything in the garage except my EMPI stuff. Way back when I was living at home and first built my car though, my suff lived in my bedroom. At one point I had all the parts for my engine, a close ratio trasmission, SAW axles, my alloys (with tires) and a drop spindle disc bake kit as well as a complete interior in the bedroom. My stepmother was not pleased.

where my wife cant see them  ::)
That is how the "stealth67vw" name came to be. I was rebuilding my 1776 but little did my now ex-wife know, it had morphed into a 2332cc flanged cranked, 48 x 38 Comp Elim. nitrous motor. ;D Sheep would doctor my receipts from Buggy House to reflect much cheaper parts.

Hah ha aha aha aha a.  Too true Ron.
Shame I am only just learing that one (after 8 years marriage, but I am a slow learner :-[), but am finding it also goes for much more than just parts ;) ;D

Currently stashed in 3 seperate locations in 3 seperate countries..

The cost of reuniting the stashes is goind to be pretty high, but I plan to consolidate the lot back in the UK next year some time.. ;)
