Title: Old Mallory Ignitor. How to tunes it? Post by: j-f on February 17, 2008, 19:24:19 pm I have two old Mallory ignitor. The dual points.
I don't know how to tune it. How much space for the points? 0.40mm? How much advance? 10° in static and 30-32 @ 3.000 rpm like an 009? How can I check the advance curve. I know that's its possible to modify it on this model. How can I check if it is still the originals set up? Thank ;) Title: Re: Old Mallory Ignitor. How to tunes it? Title: Re: Old Mallory Ignitor. How to tunes it? Post by: JS on February 27, 2008, 08:14:29 am I also have one that iŽm planning on using. My question is how come "nobody" uses them? Are they no good?
Title: Re: Old Mallory Ignitor. How to tunes it? Post by: Frallan on February 27, 2008, 19:40:52 pm I used a first version of Unilite back in early 80s.
Then I borrowed a doubelpoint version from Mats Herrlander on several engines and I think it is still around in his ownership, running with his street 2332cc. I just love them. Unfortunately I have no data but try STF. Or just ask Mallory. They have given me good support in the past. Title: Re: Old Mallory Ignitor. How to tunes it? Title: Re: Old Mallory Ignitor. How to tunes it? Post by: Frallan on February 29, 2008, 20:23:20 pm Yes 0.4 mm is what I remember but I am not 100% sure.
If you know what dwell you need/want you could measure dwell and get right breaker point distance. But again, if you want to be sure, check with Mallory. Just got a reminder from Mats that in fact he did run the distributor still. BUT he had experienced on problem one day. The engine simply died on the highway. Long story but he got the car going with a borrowed distributor but when doing root cause analysing he found out the rotor had simply shortcircuited to the center axle, in some way which I have not understoood. What he did was convert it/update to Unilite module and now he loves it again. Title: Re: Old Mallory Ignitor. How to tunes it? They are a little tricky to adjust the advance and advance rate on. But with a few tries youŽll get the hang of it. WRT how to set it. Well that depends on YOUR engine. But for starters you could try and set it to 10/32 and go from there. T Title: Re: Old Mallory Ignitor. How to tunes it? Post by: j-f on February 29, 2008, 22:07:18 pm Thanks for the advices.
I buy them some years ago and never use it. I buy from Summit items to rebuild it and plan to use it, for the look.I did not know that there is electronic module available for. But, now I was wondering how set it correctly. And I have to admit that they look quite complex compared to a 009 ::) Title: Re: Old Mallory Ignitor. How to tunes it? Post by: Svwerker on March 01, 2008, 12:21:27 pm Mallory sell springsets and instructions fore these, you can disigne your own curv. The cup is the same as all 4-cylinder diststributors of those.
Pertronix also have Ignitor to go. |
