Love it! Still undecided on colour for my '70 but that has me swaying back towards the original light blue! :D

When I first noticed this car I fell in love. Not sure what does it for me, could be the colour or perhaps the tires..... not that it matter - I like it!

This car is a good example for the fact that sometimes you can do everything "by the book", mix up all the good ingredients and en up with a car which is... not that nice. On the other hand, sometimes you see the car and it's just great. I don't know why, I just like that car.

Ted, can you share some details about your car? Engine, trans, etc. You have got a very sweet car there.

Thanks for the kind words Dkk Fred!!

@ Race craf: Your car is one of the coolest late lookers i ever saw! My first beetle was a '69 also in bleu (diamondblue L50B i believe) and it ran a set of Riviera alloys. Sinds my current bug is ready i sold it to a fellow FDk member, so it's still in the family ;)

@ roland: cool 1300 project!!! Hope to see it in real life!!!

Thanks you all and Jim, Where do I start. First, I bought the car with paint job alreqady done, Car was all stock, high back seat and all. When I got it home, I started taking it apart. I put in a set of low backs that I had in other 69' beater. Next I pulled the front end out and installed a new 2" narrow beam with there 2 1/2" drop spindles. Out back I installed my Type III rear brakes. Then came the trans that Harold Carter built for me at the time I was working at Bergs. Has all the good stuff in, 3.88 R/P Super beetle 1st, w/1.31 3rd stock 4th. For now I'm running my 1776cc motor, will be installing my new 2387cc later when its done. That motor will have an 86mm Costillo crank w/411 center main, wedge mated flywheel, w/ chevy rod journals. A set of Jet Ti rods, and a set of JE pistons that had belonged to Mark Herbert. Cam is a 86c Web cam, W/Berg 1.45 Rockers and Fred Simpson heads. Full MSD 6AL box and distributor. And of course, IDA's. And a bunch of Berg parts.
Anyway, I'm jumping around here, a little after I got the car, I picked up a set of 67' seats, and had them recovered along with the back seat. I also installed my Berg locker, Monster Tach. and a Flat4 steering wheel. There are other detailed parts, too many to mention.
Will be installing a set of CB rear disk brakes, Kafer Bar, Line Lock, New carpet, and complete NOS wing windows. The car is basicly not done, in my book, but getting there. I've never had as nice a car as this one is. Had a 67' about 20+ years ago that was nice but lost it in a divorce. oh well. Its' an on going project, as all of our VW's are. Anyway thanks again for all your kind words.   ;D

Ya know, that gray car is BAD ASS, love that color, my wifes old 68' was almost that same color, always liked it. And the darker blue one with the wheels, NICE. Good to see some late VW's, lets keep'em coming, I know there's alot more out there.  ;)

What are you buliding Mat?

It's a '73 in a period Porsche colour, Porsche alloys and a street orientated 2332. The car's actually my girlfriends, she wanted to have her own car after getting a lift in mine for so long. She was looking to have it ready for EBI II and it may yet make that but it's more likely that it'll be completed later in the year in which case it'll wait for EBI III. At the moment the welding's pretty much complete and I think the next stage is to build it up to fit everything before tearing it down and getting it painted so timewise it's still in unknown territory.

 :)

Some of it's currently on 'holiday' and it doesn't look like much as it is. You know how it is when all you have is busted eggs and no omlette? For example we have a pretty cool interior for it but it'll be even better in context in the car. I was thinking that I'd maybe put some pictures up once we are into the next phase of it but I'll have a look at what I have at home later and see if there's anything I can stick up. There's also the fact that I have to ask permission since it's not my car! It's getting to the good bit now. We're at the stage where the ideas behind the car are about to start to show and right now we still don't know if it's going to work as envisaged or not but I think we've made some good decisions on things. Time will tell I guess.

 :)

Ha, Its no show car, But i kept it so i could use it without having to worry, I will probably do my 65 bug more show.  The driveline in the 79 was bulit with one thing in mind, speed. I thought i had never seen a fast 79 vert, so why not?

Lanny, your car is awsome, gives me somthing to work towards with my 65. I will have to contact you about some products that i think you should make.

Thanks racecraf, details details details... thats what it's all about! Mine is a '69 too, also original colour like yours...
I really like your car too, especially the Fuchs wheels... had those wheels in the back of my head for a long time...
now i know how it looks, straight up kick-assl!!

Thanks Ray, Yup, I'm a firm believer of detail. It will take away from any flaws the car may have. The wheels are all 6" late Fuch's. Thinking of taking my front ones and having them narrowed to 4 1/2". It's a whole lot cheaper than getting the early ones which I won't mind having. Will see how they come out.

Thanks for the kind words, Dave!  I have to say, I really miss having an IRS...that car went straight as a string on the freeway and handled the curves even better.

Don Metz (D.K.P.) built this incredible convertible in the early '80s. The pictures don't do it nearly enough justice. You've gotta see this car in person to fully appreciate it. To this day, it's my favorite and most tastefully done 'vert late model.

Note the Aussie style tail lights and (I think) bumper rubber/insert/packing. GOOD STUFF, whatever it is. Guessing that I took these pictures at the last Bug-In held at O.C.I.R.
