I have been thinking about a buggy for a while now. A guy I know has dozen or so various buggy bodies including a Manx and SR-1. I might pick one up to do after the '67 is done. Use the 1500 single port from my '67 as the basis. Soup it up with a cam, 88s or 90.5s, the kads, etc. Basically a STF motor and stock trans. Put some Cragar SS rims or widened stock rims on it. Maybe paint it metal flake orange or blue. Be a fun little project and I can use some of the stuff I have stripped off the '67 to complete it.

There used to be a really nice Cal Look (I guess that's what it's called) Myers Manx buggy that cruised around Orange County in So Cal, back in the early '80s. It was light blue, had a big 48IDA engine, and BRM wheels. Fast and good lookin'. Wish that I had pictures of it. I'll have to go into my old photos and look. Forgot the guy's name that owned/drove it... but it was everywhere and at many of the VW events. Tastefully done, too... had H4 headlights and Lucas turn signals up front.

Currently, there's a recently built bright green one in my neighborhood. He's got a smaller engine in it w/dual small carbs and he drives it almost every day. I've always wanted to build one, but no chrome anywhere on it with BRMs. I think it would be fun to drive.

Im jonesin' for a first gen Meyers Manx... metal flake orange, white top, white cannons, white widened steel wheels with early VW caps and Mickey Thompsons, stock white vinyl seats with orange flake welting and cut down frames....  :P

A British Buggy - the Doon. Designed and made only a few miles from my house - I had a sneak preview of the buck before it was complete enough for the bodies to be made around 10 years ago. Very clever design - the two guys basically looked at the problems with all the other buggies on the market and fixed them, (opening front bonnet, proper dash, all sorts of clever stuff) and came up with a new design that wasn't different for the hell of it and actually looked right! :D

But my favourite buggy is Monkiboy's - it's just right! ;D

Heres a shot of my NOS Meyers Manx that I sold before I got married. I really didn`t want to let this one go but sometimes life gets in your way. Thats my little girl in it. Must have been at least 6 years ago. I never got it going. I did get it into a roller so I could sell it though.

but here is mine. i did it as it was build in so cal...1968-69

Man, I dig cal-look buggies. ;D  Ever since I took a ride in Ken Reese's buggy years ago I was hooked.  I seriously thought about getting one before I bought my Ghia, but decided with the inclement weather we have around here it might be best to have a car with an enclosed cabin.  8)

Here's a few shots of Ken's bitchin Manx taken at Bakerfield in 1985.  It ran a 2180cc and easily ran in the 11's.  The car was well done throughout.  From the cage, to the original early Type 2 glass tailights, to the front weight bar, this buggy was awesome!

BINGO. There was a black Manx in Hot VW`s years ago that was really cool. Skinny Centerlines, 135 and 185`s, herculon seats, and aluminum side panels. I think it had an IDA fed 1835... Inspirational.

Believe it or not but that Flower pattern is "Painted" into the gelcoat/mould so it is permanent and he did it all with a 2inch brush ;) :)

You need to ask Dyno Don for pics of his INSANE candy apple red manx.  Dyno.... you have any pics of that car?  I remember working at ECI (Engine Component Imports) in Garden Grove.  (We shipped in containers of engines and trannys cut out of old VW's in Germany, then we sold them off as "good used" and/or rebuilt to new, sold complete, etc..  We probably sold more Dog House coolers and fan shrouds than anyone back then)
Anyways Dyno came in with the most beautiful red manx I had ever seen.  He took me for a ride in it and I practically sh*t myself.  It was crazy scary fast and squirrely.  It HAD to have wheelie bars.  Never been in a car before or since that wanted to be in the air so much.
Dyno, break out some pics.  Show off that sweet Manx ride that scared the hell out of me so many years ago.

thanks for posting the pics guys..!!...for those of you that remember my stuff its always a good thing to remind ME TOO as i have forgotten much but with some prodding i can pull loose from the cobwebs of mind now and then some good stuff memory's....that was the ex car custom  race car that don melling drove/then sold to my friend scott bakken who sold it to me with a sweep together 1835 kadron engine that i smoked a built camaro in on my first outing with it...went on to redo everything a short time after...kent dahlberg from small car specialties always gave me new parts to r&d ...must have had the engine out of that buggy at least 10 times in a very short time trying to solve problems with the new brazillian cases/the first competition eliminator heads/clutch set ups/dellorto carbs..etc../basic engine was kept 1835 with an engle 140 cam/9:5 comp/42x37.5 comp heads/..basic stuff and sold to my friend tommy @ broad beans in japan where it became a track star again and ran 11:80's untouched....i know there are a few good stories to tell if i can just remember them...LOL

well i haven't driven it in person, but i want a buggy since i went for some grub after SCC in Lee's buggy. just insane. my wife saw the smile on my face when i returned and knew what was up...  ::)  still no buggy though.
so Lee if you need a crazy person to make the trip up to Norway again. no problem i'll even wear the fishing pants. did i mention i can roll cigarettes...  ;D

There is NO way I am missing SCC09 - So you up for the ride  ??? We'll be cruzin with frank again  :)

Almost perfect. Just needs somee small rectangular (Citroen 2CV?) headlights instead of those searchlights. One day I'll build a Buggy. I began collecting parts for one just before my life, er, changed ( ::)) – was a short wheelbase, 3.5in/8in Ercos, 2276, IDAs on nitrous etc etc... Cornwall would have been scared – and me too. Just as well it didn't happen, I guess! Probably wouldn't be around today! :D

I never liked these tupperware "cars" but that was until I had the pleasure to go for a ride in Monki`s beatiful buggy on a nice summer day last summer. It gave me the vibes and a real kick. Loved the way the engine sounded and the way his buggy handled the narrow roads. Thanks Monki... that was a good day.

Two buggies I remember most belonged to Gary Rollison and Lloyd Mosher.  Rollison's was bright yellow and spent a good portion of it's time at Fleming & Aronson's shop on Howell.  A beautiful car with a large IDA motor, it wound up "parked" in the front office of F&A one day when the throttle stuck with Ron Fleming behind the wheel.  Fortunatly, no one was hurt and the car was "easily" repaired.  Lloyd's was red and he used to drive it on the street before it became a racer.  I remember getting a ride one day that put a huge smile on my face I'll not soon forget.  Maybe Fabs can come up with a pic or two?

Rollison's buggy was featured in Volksworld in the mid nineties, it was the repaired version with graphics and sidepods. Very hard looking!

Glad nI converted another vw guy over to the ways of the Buggies  ;) :)

Rollason's Buggy is awesome. I drove it when i did the photo shoot all those years ago. It's still owned by Gary and is, I understand, for sale...  :)

Ah, this is obviously some strange usage of the word 'awesome' that I wasn't previously aware of.

I guess you're referring to its Gotti wheels and graphics. Consider the engineering. Consider the standard of construction and detail. Consider it was built many years ago. Consider the nitrous-injected FAT Performance motor etc etc. It is probably one of the most tofgether Buggies I have ever been in – I'd change the details (graphics, wheels, mirrors, etc) and put it visually back to its original form. But it is still an amazing car. You need to see it – and drive it. ;) Different strokes and all that... :D

A friend of mine keeps wanting me to pick up a set of Porsche pattern Gotti's he has laying around... but I can't stand them... they look so eighties Firebird...
Other than that its that truck engine that puts me off...  but we cant all dig the same thing... ;)

All fine and dandy but I`m talking CAL LOOK buggies. One of my all time favorite was in Hot VW`s I`d say in the early 80`s. It was a black Manx with skinny Centerlines, 185 and 135`s, an 1835, IDA`s, herculaon seats and polished aluminum side panels. It had a shorty windshield too. Maybe someone can find it and scan it up here. It would take me forever to find in my collection.

That would be John Fawley's from DVB,  He also owned Mark Hunsaker's '66 in the mid 80's, I bought my 1st set of BRM's from him off that car. I have'nt seen him in a while,  I bet he still owns that Buggy though.

Thats it. I remember the name John Fawley. Ever since I saw that one I wanted one like it. I was close but had to sell. There was a yellow one on detailed alloys on Hot VW`s cover in the late 70`s also. I think I`m going to have to search for it.

That car is from the Davis Bros. Wayne or Rick I don't remember which. Very nice car, it was done & sold before the red oval street race car they had.

This one is much earlier than what KS is talking about. I vaguely remember it, could it have been Geno Comb's ?
