Man...you guys get the BIG THUMBS UP! From someone who has built a full tilt Cal Looker (several actually), your cars are FIRST CLASS!  None of us have anything over your cars.  What a great representation of the original Cal Look!

Hi everyone, my name is 'Khaimukdam' as can be translated as 'Black Pearl' in English. I am one of the members of CCF Thailand, and the owner of the 'Horizontal Blue Oval 1956' that has just finished restoration of 8 months two weeks ago.  

Have to say that 'Pee Eh', the head of CCF (Pee means older brother/sister), surprised us all to come here and introduce our club to you guys here, and more surprise by the warm welcome here :)

There are 12 vw shops here in Bkk! Most sales vintage and repro part.
We dont have Flat4 distributor here. All parts for cal-look bug we've got here are imported from State or Japan :-)

Very cool to see you guys back on the Lounge again! You have great looking cars, and they sit mean to...!!  What are the tire dimensions you use up front? or rear?
Wish I knew you guys were around when I visited back in 99. Of course we know Anders Roman, he's a regular here  ;)
I see you have air condition on your cars, were they fitted from facory? or are they DIY?

Again super cool cars!

Nop, no a/c system from the factory, but.. this style installation is common in Thailand. 
Normally, we use sunden 505 as compressor.  The condensing unit's located above transmission or/and in front of the front beam.
You would die out here if you run in Bangkok without a/c.   :P

For the tire dimension, 185-55 is very popular for up front refer to limit tire size available in Thailand. 
135s or 145s also available, but it's quite expensive since we have to import. 
You might see some our car's member put 135s up front included mine.  ;D
And, 205-65 or 215-65 are popular for the rear.

Some use 185/55 porfile tyre in the front and 205/65 in rear. The rest runs 135/82 in front and 215/65 :-)
For lowering our bug we buy drop spindle from State and we do produce our own narrow beam ourself.

As Thailand is very hot country. Most bug got to have it :-)

Even though Thailand's quit hot all the year, but the wheather's very humid.

restoration quality is also very good in Thailand. i like the beam you made.

i actually met a guy with a European 68 all stock standard, his name is Khun Terd, met him in Songkhla, he has a bar here. he told me he did up the car in Hatyai.

i drove to hatyai last week, guess what i got lost.

Oh Thailand is on my list of places I must go to at some point in my life! Thai food is very popular in Los Angeles,

I think it is difficult to import our VWs in Thailand no ???
I remember have shipped over 2 cars in a 40ft container
I had to sent the car without engines into the container
and the engines I had to ship seperately into an other seaport
so that was a difficult operation at that time  8)
I just told my girlfriend that we will have to go to Thailand very soon! ;)

We had an officially dealer for VW in Thailand called "Prachayont" which means the same as Volkswagen :-)
The company start their business since 1953 - 1972.

In 1972 there was VW plant in Bangchan, a district of Bangkok, the plant start assemble VW so far.

Great looking rides, great looking "presentation" (love the display of cars!!). That is some serious quality cars there! Big thumps up!

Planning on going to Thailand next year with my wife and our three kids. It's like Thailand has become the "new" Canary Islands, or Mallorca, for us Northerners living in cold, dark Scandinavia!  ;) :D ...now I just found another great reason to go!  ;D

my office is near Nana station, where are you guys located? i have been rotating off and on from Thailand for about 3 years now, never struk my mind to look for vws there.

dont really know bangkok that well, only been to PatPong and i usually stay in Novotel Lotus or staff apartment, which are nearby.

actually i dont have a car now, sold mine off few years back, now looking for a 66 below Bug to bolt all my parts on.

any shops that carry Berg, CB and other hi-po parts?

oh yea i am also in modernbugs.com......but not that active as the page is in Thai...

Umm about Berg, CB and etc... We dont have such a distributor in Thailand. Just buy it from outside.
Internet seems the only way I could have a chance to get those parts to my VW.

Many of you might have had other perceptions and found it difficult to start gaining the knowledge of the country. It's now easier here through VW beetles.

 This place call "Dan Neramit" (Magic land) is in Bangkok.

hey guys -- i'll be in bkk on may12th for 3 days after that i'm hitting hua hin -- we gotta meet!

I was out in Thailand back in Jan/Feb as my dad had a heart attack out in Thailand and was taken to a specialist hospital in Bangkok.

As I was travelling to see him a I saw a beautiful Beryl Green (or close too) bug pass me down some random side streets! I didnt get a great look at it but saw it was a Cal-looker and remember thinking awesome! It must have been one of you guys! I wish I had known earlier! But my folks and I are always popping over there so will definitely have to drop by soon! Ive been to Koh Samui quite a few times and I have friends out in Hua hin where I stayed one my dad was out of hospital.

I did notice some good condition split screen campers on my travels too! ;-)

When Im next in BK I will love to check out one of your meets and buy you guys a Singha ;-)
