Title: White headers !? Post by: Lee.C on October 02, 2006, 21:38:55 pm As you guys have probably see the cannons on my Manx are painted white but I keep have to "dusting" them over every few weeks to keep the white colour from turning a kind of "capuccino" colour >:(
I have noticed that quite a few guys "back in the day" used to run white headers - Does anyone know what kind of paint they used? ???the stuff you can get in "rattlecans" is pretty crappy ::) Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: Rick Meredith on October 02, 2006, 23:00:37 pm Try VHT... also the rattle cans you get now are not near as good as they were in the day. Something 'bout putting holes in the ozone layer.
Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: Lee.C on July 23, 2007, 03:57:15 am I have been thinking and I seem to remember that Russell Richie started a thread about this VHT white paint and someone gave him a link to a company dealing in VHT coatings, Can anyone help ??? ??? ???

Post by: Andi/DFL on July 23, 2007, 16:47:34 pm I use simple heat resistant white header color spray cans, that you can get here quite easily. It stays white pretty good. Had some oil spray on it during May, removed the oil with brake cleaner and the paint is still fresh.

Post by: Lee.C on July 23, 2007, 20:01:34 pm Thanks for the tips guys but I have used rattle cans for a while now and even with heating both the paint and the metal it just doesn't last and after a while goes a kind of greyish colour :(
Powder coating MIGHT be an option but I do not know what temp ranges this can handle - anyone know ??? Thats why I was looking at that industrial type finsh in that previous post. Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: Rick Meredith on July 23, 2007, 20:02:32 pm And what about powdercoating? Does that last? I don't believe that normal powder-coating can handle exhaust temps. Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: Olaf A./DFL on July 23, 2007, 20:08:32 pm no it can't -i've had my heat exchangers powdercoated and it melted on the pipes
Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: Lee.C on July 23, 2007, 20:12:09 pm Good to know guys :)
Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: jasonx on July 23, 2007, 22:04:16 pm Good to know guys :) YEH I'M PRETTY SURE THAT THE CERAMIC COATING IS GOING TO HOLD THE TEMP AND NOT BURN OFF OR DISCOLOR, I HAD A FASTBACK IN THE SHOP AWHILE AGO, THATS THE 1ST TIME I SEEN THE STUFF, LIKE I WAS SAYIN ABOUT THE OIL ON THE COATING, IT DIDNT EVEN LEAVE A MARK AFTER WIPING IT DOWN WITH BRAKE CLEAN, ID GO FOR IT MAN. ;DTitle: Re: White headers !? Post by: Jordy/DVK on July 23, 2007, 23:32:07 pm please stop using CAPS all the time... Title: Re: White headers !? Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: Lee.C on July 23, 2007, 23:53:13 pm (http://i.my.afterdawn.com/original/9167.jpg) ??? ??? ??? Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: Harry/FDK on July 25, 2007, 15:10:00 pm VHT does it for me also. We had some mufflers powdercoated, but it slowly burns off. ???
Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: Dokke/DFL on July 25, 2007, 15:46:34 pm Powdercoating can only last to 220 C, simple because the powdercoating prosses is being smelting in 220 C oven.
So above that 220 C wil not make it ... Like my fellow club member said, just use hest resistent header spray which you can by in 4 differnt colors, and that's also in white. I'm always also using that ( the black one ) and it stays really good. Good luck Title: Re: White headers !? Post by: Jordy/DVK on July 25, 2007, 16:19:08 pm What brand is that Dokke?
