Title: Your favorite way of removing a wedge mated flywheel. Post by: Jon on March 12, 2008, 15:11:09 pm Due to some nasty blue spots i have too get my flywheel skimmed. But I don't really want to split the case. I have heard of guys trying Gene Bergs trick with the rivet gun, without luck, wrong size gun?. I'm thinking about making a wedge mate "puller" out of an old clutch? I have seen one, but I don't remember where?
How do you get them of? Title: Re: Your favorite way of removing a wedge mated flywheel. I have seen one, but I don't remember where? How do you get them of? Ron Lummus sold a wedgemate breaker back in late 90's... not sure if he still does. I have seen the Berg technique used a few times, no issues those times. I think the bit about using right size driver is important so you don't gouge cavity in crank. Some non wedge flywheels can be a royal bitch too. Title: Re: Your favorite way of removing a wedge mated flywheel. Post by: Rune on March 12, 2008, 17:51:08 pm Jon, Biltema ( ::) ) has a large brakedrum puller.. I drilled some additional holes in it so it would fit the flywheel... Has worked fine for me.

Title: Re: Your favorite way of removing a wedge mated flywheel. Post by: Rune on March 12, 2008, 18:20:10 pm Nice looking tool. The biltema version will do the same thing, and look crap while doing it to.. :D But then again, it costs next to nothing.
It's ofcause a lot bigger than it looks.. (http://www.biltema.no/Archive%5CProduct_images%5C19%5CLarge%5C19-1139_l.jpg) Title: Re: Your favorite way of removing a wedge mated flywheel. Post by: Jon on March 12, 2008, 22:19:21 pm Wow thanks guys, I will look in my wallet and decide what I will do when I get back from the states.
Jim, about the rivet gun, how big and how much force would you say? If there is a way to describe it at all? Title: Re: Your favorite way of removing a wedge mated flywheel. Post by: Fastbrit on March 13, 2008, 00:40:30 am Get a friend to use two big screwdrivers to lever behind the flywheel (apply pressure but not enough to damage the case), then put an extension bar from a socket set into the recess in the crank, and hit hard with a BIG hammer once or twice. That works and costs nothing. :)

Title: Re: Your favorite way of removing a wedge mated flywheel. Post by: Chuck Fryer on March 22, 2008, 14:31:29 pm I made a puller out of an old flywheel. Drill out the clutch mounting holes slighly larger, so an 8mm bolt will go through. This way you can bolt the spare flywheel face to face with the one on your engine. Next you will need a piece of threaded rod or a long threaded bolt. I think I used 1/2", not sure. Then weld a nut washer combo in the center of the flywheel. Now you wiill need that extra long bolt or threaded rod. thread it through and crank it down. Once it is good and tight whack the bolt with a hammer and it will pop loose.
