Title: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: louisb on March 12, 2008, 18:48:55 pm So what plans do you have for your cal-looker in the next year? Driving it to some shows? Doing some work on it? Racing it? What you up too?

Needs either a master cylinder or rear wheel cylinders; I've got new parts, so probably that should be first. I bought a 1-1/2" merged with flanged heater boxes over the winter, I think that will make a nice upgrade for the summer. Buy a selection of jets for the Kadrons and get it really dialed in. Drive, drive, drive, and get to the track at least a few times. :( Here's my un-realistic list: Mock-up my 2110 as best I can, and have it ready for insertion into the car by the end of the summer. Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Rick Meredith on March 12, 2008, 19:28:02 pm Not to let it sit for another year!
Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: j-f on March 12, 2008, 19:36:00 pm Not to let it sit for another year! Good resolution :D For me, I need to change my passenger door. The bodywork don't have repair it correctly. :P Take a decision of what I will do on my next project. ::) Go to a machine shop to increase CR for my 1600 ::) Not enough time to do all :-\ :-\ Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Rob DVKK on March 12, 2008, 19:50:55 pm For the Car - Well there is a pile of parts in my office - upgrades for the ignition, a set of axles, line-loc, new rear seat and the start of a nitrous kit.
I'll get the axles, ignition, line-loc and rear seat done. Nitrous might have to wait until next winter. For shows - The Classic (If our new baby arrives on time), Our show the Great Canadian VW Show, maybe Vegas BOR in Oc t and get out to the track whenever possible. Lanny's list for my car - wipers, horn and interior light, I'll try and get around to that this year again, but it has been 10 years so.... Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Prowagen on March 12, 2008, 19:54:48 pm 68 Project bug
Keep accumulating parts! Pic up new 66 bug (Stock) Fits 2litre wheels 2110CC Motor (Needs new carb linkage, toying with idea of serpentine pulley kit) Get Flat 4 wheel and shifter Lower Front take to bug in. Turn girlfriends 74 1200 into late model Cal Looker. These are the plans hopefully get somewhere with them! Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: qubek on March 12, 2008, 20:16:59 pm Finish the 1914....sorry - 1915 engine. I have all the parts, shortblock is assembled and waits in my room.
Replace the gearbox and reinforce the surroundings in order to avoid wheel hop. Replace torsion bars. Make the car steer strait and brake strait. Replace front seats Replace or delete bumpers Find a set of good fenders, paint and fit them, together with some work on doors and front quarter panels (flows from last year rebuild) The last one I'm probably not going to make on time (Bug In). As for the previous ones - I have no choice. I probably forgot about something like 346 other things that need to by done. Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Lids on March 12, 2008, 21:18:11 pm fit new door panels, fit new doors! (Must paint these first). The doors are a good story, 2 x NOS doors = 2 x bug-in dash plaques. What a swap :)
Fit new engine bay side trays, 10mm narrower. Fit hydraulic clutch. Weld in mid mount, and CSP trap bar. Bleed brakes! Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: LuftsickTero on March 12, 2008, 21:33:03 pm So what plans do you have for your cal-looker in the next year? Driving it to some shows? Doing some work on it? Racing it? What you up too? Not much. Worst case I need new set of carbs to my '55 Oval, my 48 Dells got the Dellorto drip last summer and the guy fixing that probably ruined my carbs (long story). Other than that just driving. Probably will let go of that car at the end of the season, so will be swapping engine/gearbox/brakes etc back to stock spec after the summer. I'll mostly be working and spending my money on my Resto Cal (http://luftsick.blogspot.com/search/label/My%20Cabriolet) 'Vert ;) Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: 62 Ragtop on March 12, 2008, 23:40:13 pm Eeeh, get it done..? :D
1.realistic so it seemed a few weeks ago... then the kids got chicken pox, on after the other after the third... >:( :D Finish up the assembly, hang the headliner, refurbish the seat frames and re-upholster front and back seats, stuff in the windows and a zillon other "small things" probably not on the "to-do-list" then get a fire exstinguisher and... crank the old 1584cc. Wash off all the garage dust, wax it then get it through Vehicle inspection then drive, drive, drive... :) 2.un-realistic? below is a bit dependent on making good progress on number 1 item... 8) hand over my 2165cc to my motorguru-to-be, tear it apart, check all bearings, cc the chambers, check balancing, perhaps a valve-job on the 044s, perhaps replace the 44IDFs for a pair of 48IDAs... Hopefully no major bad surprises, then put it back togheter and most importantly put it in the back of the car which probably means check and / or replace fuel line, install my Holley fuel pump and regulator, upgrade with some steel braided lines and AN couplings, freshen up the engine bay, bla bla... then let her rip!... and replace gearbox for next season, as always, there is always next season right! ;) Honestly, if I can make number 1 happen I'll be a happy camper for this season to come! Damned, I need to get an au-pair at home and an assistant at the office! :P cheers, Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Jason Foster on March 13, 2008, 00:40:33 am Keep it together for drag day on Sunday the 16th, as long as it doesn't rain. Also hoping to run bug in on the 6th of April. Only things I may end up doing is getting the headliner done and laying down the square weave.
Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Zach Gomulka on March 13, 2008, 02:54:47 am 30mm oil pump, replace header, refinish S&S glasspack, new heater hoses, and re-install the pulley bolt tin
Red Coil w/ resistor New deluxe running boards Lower and align rear suspension Mexi Bug washer bottle Front sway bar, disc brake backing plates SS braided brake lines Have dents massaged out Paint detail my Sprint Star spare That's off the top of my head. We'll see how much of that I can finish before Bug-In ::) Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Turtle001 on March 13, 2008, 06:45:28 am NOS Talbot Mirror

Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Trond Dahl on March 13, 2008, 10:30:29 am - remove current transmission and engine
- insert new kcr transmission and new engine (and offcourse lots of other small bits n stuff as a result) - drive - race - enjoy - race - drive - enjoy Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Kobus on March 13, 2008, 10:36:30 am Realistic: i'm gona be happy if I get to replace handbrake cable, fit new tires, and just do a big service on the whole car, brakes, engine tuneup and keep going...
Unrealistic: would love to fit my 1750cc with the Solex 40PII carbs in the back.... but i just don't see when i'll have the spare time for that... hmmm... spend less time on the Computer and more on the Car..... Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: BeetleBug on March 13, 2008, 10:38:09 am - remove current transmission and engine - insert new kcr transmission and new engine (and offcourse lots of other small bits n stuff as a result) - drive - race - enjoy - race - drive - enjoy Sounds like a masterplan! Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: JustinCase on March 13, 2008, 10:44:56 am - get the new 1776cc up and running
- fit my new CSP-shifter and Flat4 steering wheel - raise the rear to stock height and lower the front end a bit - install new KYB-shocks into front and back - put seatbelts in it - enjoy driving it - trying not to break the stock gearbox :D Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: ESH on March 13, 2008, 10:45:04 am ...Sounds like a masterplan... Doesn't mean you don't have a plan! If you're bored you can borrow mine for the racing season and come the autumn stick some spots on the top and go cat shooting, it's why I got a rag top. With the other project on the go at the moment the '63 isn't a major part of my plans for 2008 right now. A couple of race meets is going to be about it I think. :) Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: BeetleBug on March 13, 2008, 12:59:28 pm ...Who? Me? If there is one car I would like to push below 13 seconds it`s your 63 ;) Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Endre D on March 13, 2008, 13:13:37 pm - Complete my 2332 engine bulid
- Rescue my poor Oval from its current resto-stance - Install an extensive list performance/safety related bits'n'pieces - Install new KCR transmission - Install the above mentioned 2332 - Learn how to drive a VW with more-than-stock power - ENJOY IT - Probably think about how to get more power next year... ;D Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Neil Davies on March 13, 2008, 13:20:58 pm Realistic
1. Finish the late model project car - needs doors repairing, wings and lids fitting, then paint and re-assembly :) 2. do some gardening... Unrealistic - more likely to be '09 1. Quick tidy up on my brothers car - body off, repair a few rust spots on bulkhead and crossmembers, POR 15 pan and underside of shell, new front valance, 'glass wings, cabrio-ise the engine lid, fit 1500 gearbox, 2007 motor, another new headliner, paint whole car! Should get some of this done, but unlikely that it'll all be done for the end of the year! :D 2. Finish the garden! Really unrealistic! 1. Build the '51! 2. Enjoy gardening... Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: ESH on March 13, 2008, 13:21:26 pm ...A plan, some wishes and a very low USD it`s all there is for the moment... Well I'm looking forward to seeing whatever comes of that, all the best with it. I have to say though, I loved that blue car... ...thank you for you offer.. be careful, I might show up and ask for your key. If there is one car I would like to push below 13 seconds it`s your 63... Hey, me too! A shortage of Mallory parts (at the Mallory factory [!]) slowed 2007 down. It's in the neighbourhood this year and if you want it the key's yours... :) Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: BeetleBug on March 13, 2008, 13:31:21 pm Probably think about how to get more power next year... ;D Probably? I think you`re already thinking about that.... do it the easy way, don`t do anything with your 2332 except for installing nitrous and shoot 80hp, run 12`s (11`s?) at the strip and drive it all day on the roads. 8) Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: Sam K on March 14, 2008, 00:55:30 am For my '67 in the very near future:
*Fix the oil leaks from the JayCee pusnrod tubes as it's leaving puddles in the garage. *Work on my tune and jetting. I think there's a little more untapped power. *Reset my rear torsion bars for a little more preload *Get the EMPI guages working *Give a it s really good cleaning Towards winter, I'd like to do a little paint touch up if funds allow. For my 63/73 futurerace car, more parts collecting, maybe replace the rusty heater channel and rear bumper mounts. Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: DKK Ted on March 14, 2008, 06:34:11 am Finally got my 2303 in my 69', will start it up Friday hoping all will work out, hoping to run it at Drag Day.
In the near future: -Install my CB rear disk brakes -Install my Kafer bar -Install my carpit kit -Start working on my race motor, instead of building a 2387 which was my original plan, will be building a 2275 instead, with Ti rods, 86c cam, JE pistons, Performance Tech heads, and the list goes on. -Narrowing my Late 6" Alloys to 4 1/2" -Install my MSD THE END........so far ;) Title: Re: Plans for you Cal-looker Post by: SAMBABOY66 on April 13, 2015, 17:29:56 pm sounds familiar.............DKK
