Title: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Fritter on March 17, 2008, 06:11:55 am Here is an old EMPI oil pump/filter, an old Swedish Empi ammeter, and some aluminum rockers I think are DDS, but not sure.
Any insight on the aluminum rockers would be appreciated! Thanks. Title: Re: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Fastbrit on March 17, 2008, 08:32:19 am I have a set of those rockers! I bought them at Pomona for about $2 and then showed them to Bill Taylor one time. He identified them as being made by... Taylor! BUT, the company was nothing to do with Bill, the name was just a coincidence. If you look through some ads in old Hot VWs you'll see them.
EDIT – see below. Made by Thomas Automotive Products of LA Title: Re: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Fritter on March 17, 2008, 15:59:02 pm Keith, any idear what year of Hot VW's I should look at?
Dave Mayes has a pic of a set on his site also, so he has some. Weird.... Title: Re: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Ole on March 17, 2008, 16:41:53 pm About ten years ago a friend of mine bought a set of rockers like these at a german swap meet. They said the rockers came from a formula vee.
Title: Re: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Zach Gomulka on March 17, 2008, 17:45:41 pm Ive got a set of those rockers, too. Ive heard they were 1.15:1 ratio, made and designed to replace the 1:1 rockers found on a 40hp motor. My guess is that would date them as 1965 or earlier ;)
Title: Re: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Fritter on March 17, 2008, 17:59:55 pm Thanks for the input guys! I also believe they may be 40hp. And the formula V thing may make sense, because of lightness and the aluminum would not be stressed by almost stock spring pressures. But I thought Formula V had to use stock parts? Maybe different classes have different rules....
I don't know if these AL rockers would hold up well with Chevy type valve springs....... They look cool sitting on my shelf though! Any more info is appreciated..... Title: Re: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Fastbrit on March 17, 2008, 18:20:03 pm They were made by Thomas Automotive Products, 8816 Sth Crocker Street, Los Angeles. Were available in 1964 for $67.50 – claimed to be 'mag' but I doubt it.

Title: Re: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Fritter on March 18, 2008, 18:37:59 pm Wow, cool, thanks for posting that Keith! These rockers are older than I thought they were.
They really look like aluminium and not magnesium to me. I guess I could try lighting one on fire and see what happens. Just kidding. Talk about obscure....... ;D Title: Re: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Fastbrit on March 18, 2008, 19:54:58 pm My pleasure! Forgot to say, the story appeared in Foreign Car Guide.
Note the head shown is a 36-horse – my rockers are like yours, for the 40-horse. What cracks me up is that the photo only shows seven pushrods... ;D Title: Re: Some old parts I picked up last weekend Post by: Fritter on March 20, 2008, 05:20:53 am Running 7 pushrods in your hot 36er was the thing to do in '62. :D
