Amazing how well adapted the little Beetle has been at racing. I would have to say the chapter on 1970's Rallycross cars is probably my favorite, though the AWD, OHC 450hp turbo rally-cross cars from the 1980's are nothing if not mind blowing. Better power to weight ratio than Porsche 911 twin turbo. Also a few shots of Dr. Josef Gerold's kafercup car.....somewhere I know my buddy Derek has more info on that car. While it isn't a hardcore "Cal Look" book, it does have some great info on Okrasa, EMPI, Gene Berg, DDS. Few pics of some older US-based drag cars and a few shots of KS' No Mercy turbo car. Very cool book! They were also sponsors of the rallycross Beetle driven by John Button shown on page 79... He was a VW dealer (Autoconti).
I did a track test of the Boss Beetle Super Saloon racer on page 96 back in 1981... That was fun! Formula 5000 chassis with Beetle body. I also did the artwork for the Autocavan advert at the back of the book!
