YESSS!!! There will ALWAYS be a skateboard nearby my geographic location/existence on this ball that we call Earth, Fabian. Skateboarding's in my blood till I can't ride one any longer.

Just pulled in the driveway with my newly acquired 1967 Bug. As my alltime fave cartoon character always touts, "HAPPY HAPPY, JOY JOY!! ~Stimpson J. Cat a.k.a. Stimpy

Thanks to everyone that made this happen. Also scored some BRMs, today. My birthday presents arrived two months early this year... and I'm quite okay with that. HAHAHA!!!

Images to follow sometime in the not-to-distant future. Gotta go start cleaning my new toy.

Irony abounds... it came with a roof rack. Couldn't remove quick enough. It's gonna make someone very happy, 'cause it's a nice one and in great condition. Where do I find fender skirts, dingleballs, fuzzy dice, and stick-on flames? I'll get the visor later.

Thanks, y'all... pics will be up soon. I've only got a few things cleaned up on it, so far. It's really dusty and dirty from sitting so long. Inside and out. Took apart the tail lights and cleaned up the bulbs/reflectors/lenses. The paint's oxidized, as well.

The shape of things to come.

Thank you for all of the well wishes, everybody. In a bizarre twist of fate, I end up with a '67. I've been on the hunt for a '68 or '69. Every car I looked at was either a rust bucket or all cut up. Strange how a few things have changed in the VW realm. I honestly thought it would be like the old days and finding a late car would be a cinch. WRONG. I never foresaw finding a solid '67. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. HA!

Your car is going to look like John Sandovals Zenith Blue 67 With BRM's Do You Remember his Car Fred? From the Auto Haus Days?

That name sounds familiar, but I don't ever recall seeing that car. At which store did he work, Shubee?

I really wanted a Savannah or Lotus car, but I couldn't pass this one up. I've been looking for one with pop-outs, NO sunroof, and late seats (lowbacks w/side-knobs on seat backs). I feel very blessed to have scored this piece of Volkswagen history. I got the horn, dome light, and original Saphire radio to work, too. Even the radio has the '67 knobs. The only thing that doesn't work are the highbeams. Hopefully just a fuse or relay and not the turn indicator arm on the column. Time will tell. The locking shifter is a trip... never had a car with that.

Congrats on the find Mark! I'm looking forward to seeing a few pics.

I'm happy to report that I found a new project too. I just bought a toga white '69 sunroof with... get this... les than 20k on the clock!

It's been parked under a carport in Norwalk CA for the last 20 years. It's gonna need some tlc, but it'll be a solid place to build from. Right now it's sitting in a yard in Gardena,  CA waiting for a ride east [wee!].

Thanks, Jeffrey... and back at ya! VERY stoked to hear about your car. If you need me to help you with getting your car to you, please let me know. I'm not far from where it is. If you need pics, I'm a photographer... just say the word. You scored on such a low mileage car. That ROCKS! I wanted a white or beige late car, too. Glad someone in our club found one. It's goin' to a good home.

Here's a peek at my little diamond in the rough.

Currently it's sitting at the DAS terminal in Gardena and will be on a truck later on today. My plan is to polish it up as much as it can, adjust the altitude a bit, maybe a little fuchage and then focus my attention on the motor and trans [in true cal-look fashion]. Interior has got the Cali-cancer so that will need a little help but the rest is really solid, hard to find here in bleak north east.

Yeah, Jeffrey!!! That thing is SAWEEET! What a great find for you.

I'm eventually gonna do the same thing with mine. Major clean up ahead of me. Even though it got driven on the weekends by the owner's wife, it looks like it sat out in the desert for years without ever being cleaned. A LOTTA dirt inside and out. But underneath is a VW treasure. After that, I'll put my newly acquired wheels and drop spindles on. Next, pull out the stock engine after I get done building my other one.

Jeffrey, I took the liberty of changing the thread name. Now, we just need Mark to get his up here.

 ;D

Wait a gosh darned minute... I'M Mark and it's MY thread, so I changed it. So there. HAHA!! You're right about the tease; it's the only part of the car that was cleaned up at that juncture. I gotta go buy a few parts today. Hopefully, I'll get some more pics up, later on.

P.S. I was referring to seeing Mark R.'s car on here in my previous post. Sorry for any confusion. I'm your host... Ken Fusion.

Thanks, guys... I'm pretty stoked on owning/driving an aircooled car again. Rick, that's how I remember your decklid badge looking, but I thought that you had it powder coated black. Did you de-powder coat it at some point, or is that a different badge?

The original "VOLKSWAGEN" block letter emblem was powder coated semi gloss black with the rest of the stuff on my car. This emblem was a later addition and was always like this.

Finally got most of the car dialed in. Poor thing had not been cared for in a long time and was extremely dirty. Sorry that's not in Cal Look mode yet, but I wanted to clean it up as a stocker, first.

I'm guessing the engine is a 1500 or 1600cc. Whatever it is, it still has single port heads. Now that my roommate has given it a full tune up and valve adjustment, it can actually get out of it's own way, now. It's amazing that it even drove two hours from the desert to my house. Points weren't operating and the valves were tight.

Gotta look into why the high beams and brake lights don't work. I'm guessing a relay and a brake light switch. I bought a switch yesterday. Gonna try to replace that today. I don't wanna drive it till that's fixed. I SO can't stand the outside mirrors on this car. YUCK! Aftermarket and wrong shape. Need the passenger side pear shaped mirror and black license plates to complete the exterior.

Next, will be the drop spindles. Monza exhausts are still on the cool list, yes?

It's far from perfect or show quality... but thanks, Rick. I just feel blessed that I scored one less than half of the prices of the other cars I was looking at. I could see the potential of this one, however. Even though it had oxidized paint and dirt everywhere. Think I already have the (barf!) roof rack sold. That'll go towards paying for the huge sushi bill for Joe and I, last night. HAHA!! He didn't want money for dialin' in my engine, so I offered to treat us to a HUGE dinner. We almost closed the place. Had to celebrate me getting another Beetle after all of these years.

HAHA!! Louis, don't feel TOO bad... if it makes matters better, I've looked at many cars for the last couple of months. They were either rusted or asking way too much money for my shoestring budget. I totally lucked out with this car. My best friend (who ironically found my first car for me in 1979 while we reading the classified ads in high school math class) called me last Friday and said we gotta go look at this car. So, we headed out to Victorville, which took us an hour and a half in his new company car. Bought the '67 and even got the price down. Took us two hours to get home.

I agree with you... finding rust free cars, even here, is getting to be a wild goose chase. It's been a rather humbling experience. 28 years ago, we rarely saw cars with rust. A lot has changed since then and I'm finally learning that. Oh and about the engine... that might take awhile. So far, I have a counterweighted crankshaft, flywheel, Kennedy Stage 1 plate, and rods. Gonna build a 1914cc.

Thanks, again, for the kind words everyone. Rick, you know me... I'm always down for some sushi or just eating food in general. Name the time/place and I'm there.

I think that the lack of rust free cars in the southwest is because we're getting picked over from other areas where the climate is not as dry.

Thanks, Jeffrey... can't wait to see yours, too. Where's Mark? Gotta see what he scored. Henry, too... he's had one for awhile.

Well, today, I replaced the brake light switch and I finally working brake lights. Stoked! Also did some cleanup here and there. Took some more pics with different lighting settings and got more of the true color on the color one.

I'll always dig on black & white shots, too.

Nix the Monza? Hmmm... but Rick and Bill told me they were really boss and stuff. Tomorrow; eyebrows for the headlights!

It looks really nice Mark, great score. Start making your "before and after" book.

If you are going with the Monza, don't forget a pair of "Toronado" mirrors!

Good catch, Gary... that's the only body part that's not orig. on this car. I already have a German driver's side fender if I ever paint it down the road. Can't afford it now.

This is a late car with the late lowback seats... exactly what I was looking for. Plus, I got pop-outs with no sunroof. Been looking for that combo for a long time.

Nice progress.

Thanks... got even more done, today. Painted the wiper arms and blade holders silver, replaced a few grommets and gaskets. Also took a stab at making the plate the correct color. This was my first practice run. Not perfect... but I might be able to, someday, dial it in.

Well, there's a trifle more to it than that... but yeah, love to see that car back on the road again. I'd give anything to have my old orange '66 back. There's a couple of you that are very blessed to have been smart enough to hang on to your cars over the years. Good on ya!

I've got no metal skills!. Been trying to work with Danny on it but he keeps getting better paying jobs and I can't blame him for taking them. He and I had lunch on Wednesday and talked about it. He may be having a break coming up. The other thing we talked about was trailering the car to his house so he could work on it as he has time.

Well, got the outside of the car done, except for the engine. The headliner is old and the carpet is black but in good condition. Down the road, I'll put in some factory gray carpet and new white headliner. At least, for now, I can enjoy the car and focus on building an engine.

Stoked to have a D.K.K. logo on my car after too many years since my last one. Thanks to everyone here for the support, car, wheels, and everything else. Feels good to be back.

Thanks, Neil. You're right about the stickers, too. Made my day when I put those on... the finishing touch, till the engine gets built.

HAHAHA!!! OFFSHORE? Too funny, Rick. Yeah, I keep forgetting to get those from you every time we cross paths. Just name the time/place and I can swing by. Hey, the automobile antique show is this Sunday at Vet's Stadium. Let's go buy those pieces of black metal that we were discussing, the other day. There's also Cars & Coffee this Saturday, as well.
