Title: The art of driving a Cal-looker and getting old, but only on the outside..... Post by: SOB/RFH on March 25, 2008, 20:11:50 pm We all get older (I am getting close to 50 if I have counted right) and it is as if some of us sticks to this interest while others move on to other interests uring the span called life. Driving a Cal-look car with a HiPo motor takes skills and to survive I think the "getting wiser with age" contributes to lowering the number of occasions where incidents or accidents occur more seldom then back in the days of youth. So the possibility to survive raises with age and so does possibly the number of tickets too.....but what does the people around us/you think about it........Something like: "When are you going to grew up" and also the impact of the younger excluding the elder from due to the fact "that they don't understand it and wants everything to be so serious"...........I like the art of ageing and would like to stay in business for a while (like 15 years at least) but am afraid that age takes it toll and interest evolves in to talking about "back in the day when...." instead of walking new paths in search of more horsepower or just experience the art of having fun!! So what do you think about getting old and the art of driving a cool cal-look car with dignity? 8)

Post by: Sam K on March 26, 2008, 02:58:32 am I'll be 30 next month and I've ocasionally found myself reminiscing about my high school years when fixing up my Bug and chasing girls were my only real concerns in life. Back when I could open up the newspaper and find a clean bug with a blown engine or tranny for a couple hundred bucks, head down the pick-a-part junkyard and get everything I needed to fix it, spend a day or two working on it and have a decent little car that I could drive for a while and sell to buy more parts for my '67. Good times!

My dad is 65 and ocasionally still drives the family pro mod trans am(most of the time i drive it). I still race my car and am aiming for a 9 sec pass this year. I have had all the comments “aren’t you a bit too old for that”, “when are you going to grow up” etc and my answer is “when I can’t use the line lock or shifter”. The down side to age is your reaction times!!! ;) An important part of the ingredient is good company with like-minded people. There is no rule in the book of life that you have to stop doing what you enjoy when you reach a certain age. I also treat my work with this attitude because ‘Old’ is a description not a category and a good guide to live by is “don’t stop doing things because you’re getting old, you get old because you stop doing things” :D…….....I rest my case. Bernie Amen to that! We've had an old saying like that in skateboarding... You don't quit skateboarding because you got old, you got old because you quit skateboarding. Same theory applies to surfing, as well. I'm gonna be 46 this June and been skateboading since I was ten and surfing since 13. It's parallel to the Cal Look thing, too. My parents never acted or lived old... they were quite the opposite. So I guess it got passed down to my sister and me. And our kids are getting it.
