Title: Cool Cal-looker and a potent Street Racer
Post by: SOB/RFH on March 26, 2008, 17:24:42 pm

This 1959 type 1 is up for sale. A solid car with just modest mods done to it. Shift light and a genuine Hurst shifter add to the otherwise stock interior. Car contains a lowered stock front end and stock drums. Rear end is detachable so access to motor is easy. Gearbox in car is a 4,37 RP late box with 3,78/2,06/1,32/0,93 and it has the good HD parts like Super Diff, short Race axles, HD pinion bearing nut. Solid mounts is used as nothing else seem to work. Light weight Ercos all around with 135 Michelins in front and M&H 215/65/15 rears. Fuel system goes from a modified sock tank via a Billet Holley 125 GPH pump and braided Teflon linings to a return regulator and to carbs.
Motor is a 2332 cc version. So here are the hard specs:
84 CB nitrited crank, stock flywheel, 11/32 pins and Berg HD bolt. 5,5” Scat rods attached to 94 mm Cimas turned down to 92 OD at bottom. All this and the straight cut Magnum cam gear and a Engle FK89 cam rests in a VW factory new case with a 30 mm Melling pump and a 3,5qt Empi sump. All of this is topped with a set of 11,6:1 compresion CB CNC oval ports modified with a new competion valve job for the 44/37,5 Manley valves. Bugpack springs and Ti reteiners are used as are fully ported intake manifolds topped with a set of 48 IDA.s with 45 vents. Exhaust is a 1 ¾” merge system with a silent 2,5” Apple muffler.

So how does it work? In absolute street trim, driven without a back up trailer to track and back (80 miles single way), with regular pump gas, fan belt on and  DOT tires it has done a 12,35………..put some more aggressive gearing in it and with a lousy 60 foot it made the quarter in 12,08 lacking top speed due to gasoline surging. So it is a fast ride. Short shift it and cruising is nice and comfy……

So as a teaser of what this car is capable of we have included a photo showing the car doing second gear wheelies…….on the street!!! Asking price is 88 000 SEK or 9280 Euro.
