Anyone used bugpack s/e heads to good effect

any comments welcome

hello,
street eliminators running hotter than stock heads, the biggest problem is the lack of cooling fins around the exhaust port, but maybe sometimes someone will try to weld in some more fins....

been offered them as part of a package with some 48's , how much hotter do they run, ok for street use ?

don't know, because i never run street eliminators, but in the past i often thought about buying street elis and weld some extra fins around the exhaust port. i never saw a cracked street eli, but i saw many cracked 044...

some "street cars" run with street elis, but i don't know if this are realy street cars...

I think it depends on how you drive on the street , only cuising woul be ok .

I was thinking of building a stroker with short rods for power lower down,I like a bit of low down grunt, but I do drive a bit hard but not with to much revs::)

My current trip to work is about 18miles each way but I'd like it to be usable for trips to bugin etc cruising about 3-3500 rpm.

Would it help if I kept the compression down or am i better selling them and getting something else?

Drove my 1915 with s/e heads in florida and in curacao where its quite hot and with no problem.
But must say that i used all the original tin on the engine with a porsche cooling fan,maybe that
produces more air than the stock fan.Goodluck 8)

They do run hotter,but what the hell if you don't drive long distances.If you do,044 or other heads based on o44 are a better choice.

I ran the CB versions for years on my street car, 42 x 37 ported them myself, copying Pauter B heads. The car did in fact run hotter than I wanted it to, and because of that I added small Mesa under RH torsion housing, in addition to the 72 plate Mesa on LH side and doghouse and then the car would go for miles and miles. I drove the car about 37K miles with those heads on 2276 with FK8 and FK10 and 7.8:1, yes eating too many Zotz.
Car ran pretty good though, with fan belt and radials and Flowmaster it went 13.70's @ Sears Pt.

I think the way to go for a street car is to use a VW head.

By the way what sort of head temps were you running and what was that average air temp. Its a lot cooler over here most of the time do you think it would make any difference?

Bugback Super flows ? Or CB Comp E ?s

Often 2nd hand sets of Superflows dont seal well and leak , do to having an O ring design and then people tightned them up to much and damage the seal.

Alot of people run Comp Es on the street with alot of good times .

Get the heads checked out, what are the sizes etc ?

Also what springs are you running? if you run K800's the seats tend to sink over time with lots of use ;D

Take a look on the MS 230 from JPM, you can do it better for your self, here you have all in one.
I have race engine with bugpack heads , sorry! but i can get the heat away from it.

I will be going with vw heads i think.  I want a fast street car not a racer 8)

After all the advice I been given I dont want any problems on a car thats going to spend 99% of its time on the street, just to get an other 10hp if I'm lucky
