Mate of mine used to know a Speedwell agent and bought a bag of nuts and studs from him many years ago - the agent told him they were proper BRM VW studs and nuts to go with the wheels on a Volkswagen.  We've tried them on A genuine BRM and they fit but are not marked.

Anyone heard of that before?

When i used to own the Clyde Berg Race Car, the Studs and Nuts on the Flat 4 Wheels where from the Original BRM's he used to run, well that is what Clyde told me...

I could probably identify them if see a picture...

My first set of BRMS's came with a 1 pc. stud  ( 12mm-to-14mm ). The 12mm was for the drum end, of 14mm end was for the Acorn type style lug nut..
 There is no way I was going to use them.( not safe for racing ) So, had 14mm press on all away around..

Phil, complete tangent to the subject, your weight saving on the car is playing on my mind ;D

you could probably save a kilo by removing the jacking points on the floor pan, also an Ali beam??, no beard :P

p.s has anyone got any dimensions/ drawings of the BRM inserts, I'm thinking we could get a load made in aluminium, another weight saving, good suggestions from a fat guy! ;D

yes I know

that system looks like the empi8 spoke system that is now for sale. it also has those studs and lugs, but flat and not the cups. but they will lot fit or tighten down properly, so don't by them. i have the BRM cups and some bolts. sorry for going offtopic :-[

  no way ... I will take them.  I have used those studs for decades,  they are fine. I have press in studs in the back now because of the type 3 drums.  As for the lugs, I have seen 2 different lugs some have a round top (I have a set of those)  the other type are flat , they look like a Porsche lug.  As for the hardware in the photo  that is very cool...    Bill

Thanks all for your replies, yes the ones in the pics are the ones he has (although not a complete set) so that confirms it!  Never knew there was such a thing.

Ben - in fact I just removed my jacking points.  A bit disappointed with the 400gms per side, but it's another couple of pounds down the drain.  I've taken another 50lbs off the car for this year  -  the ET calculator on http://robrobinette.com/et.htm tells me I should be able to achieve an 11.75 this year.  It was spot on for the 11.86 last year.  Will aim to have a go at Flame and Thunder with no tinware/fanshroud/alternator/alternator stand/oil cooler which is another 35lbs or so.

Thought about an ally front beam, however Pete cut mine so well and it was such a good original beam that I just can't let it go.  Plus with the 70ft wheelstands on the stinger I'm not sure it would be a great idea at present to make the front considerably lighter again.  For now I'm putting my pillar drill efforts into the back end.

Can't wait to get back in the saddle again and see what she can do!

It's hard to tell from the photo , if it' indeed for a 8 spoke wheel or not? The BRM spacer is much longer then the 8 spoke spacer...

yes indeed i forgot to mention it as well. the 8 spokes use the same cup but the shaft is a lot shorter. otherwise they fit great. better then everything i have seen made aftermarket. and the 4 lugs are 14mm so i guess it is a 5 lug system that is shown as they have 12mm lugs originaly.
