Title: engine replacement. Can i have my cake and eat it?
Post by: Rocket Ron on April 14, 2008, 22:11:17 pm
Well looks like I’ve been let down by the samba again so the parts I though I was getting don’t look like they will be arriving so a change of plans.

I’ve got to sort out my cars at home and am looking for advice for you guys. I’m getting rid of my fast Audi  400hp and 0-6 in about 4 ½ seconds as I’ve started my own business and spend most of my time in my works van and I don’t use the audi very much now.

I currently have a 2ltr type 4 in my bug which dropped a valve late last year and needs replacing. I would like to replace it with a 48ida stroker motor but I will be doing about 3-5000 miles a year in it and have about £4000 to spend.

It needs to be fast ( near as possible to the audi), reliable and worry free.

So what can I get, where would you go, what would you do and am I being realistic

over to you

For a regular driver and occasional racer, I would build a 2332 with forged internals, a medium sized cam like a 130 some big valve heads, etc. I'd probably set the compression around 8.5 or 9 to 1 so it will run on pump gas. That would make for a fun engine that wouldn't have to work hard to keep up with traffic and should be pretty dependable.

94 x 82 or 78
Engle FK45 with 1.25
VW heads 44 x 37
big Webers
moderate CR
big exhaust
all the usual crap to keep it cool
work on it regularly (service)

go fast, go long....it can be done with the above....  oh wait that's my motor....8000 miles now since last year and still kicks over.
