Title: I'm buying a new case........what do you suggest? Post by: airstuff on April 15, 2008, 17:00:46 pm I am buying a new case for 2276cc engine over Samba.
What machining options should I include?? Here is my list: Bore for 94 and deck case. Full flow and open all oil galley plugs. Stroker clearence. Shuffle pin on the centre main. Other available options-what from that do I really need:??????? Cut for sand seal. Sleeve lifter bores?? Fill/weld behind 3. cylinder?? It will be a street driven car, occasional strip once/twice a year. Title: Re: I'm buying a new case........what do you suggest? Post by: Steve D. on April 15, 2008, 20:41:54 pm Is this going to be an aluminum or a mag case?
Shuffle pin on the centre main- in my opinion a pointless waste of money (unless it's an aluminum case which already has them so you don't have any other choice) Cut for sand seal- stock oil return scrolls work just fine, but sand seal works great too. Sleeve lifter bores- not necessary on an aluminum case, debatable on a mag case (I personally get them sleeved-> peace of mind) Fill/weld behind 3. cylinder- absolute waste of $$$ all it wil do is warp your nice new case. Have fun. Title: Re: I'm buying a new case........what do you suggest? Seems shuffle pinning the center main is pretty much standard these days. Just want to hear why you don't think it is necessary. Thanks, --louis Title: Re: I'm buying a new case........what do you suggest? Post by: airstuff on April 15, 2008, 22:05:43 pm Is this going to be an aluminum or a mag case? Thanks, --louis If it's standard, then I'll take it :D And actually, how many of you guys has the lifter bores sleeved in your engines?I am not going to use the agressive camshaft profile,I will use Engle 125 or if I get 1.4 rockers the FK8 but for now Engle 125 is favorite as I have some 1.25:1 rockers. Title: Re: I'm buying a new case........what do you suggest? Post by: Steve D. on April 15, 2008, 23:43:02 pm Brothers does an awesome job on bushing the lifter bores- I've had them do up the lifter bores in silicon bronze and all I can say is those guys don't charge enough (don't tell them that though).
As for shuffle pinning, If you use a quality rotating assembly there shouldn't be any movement of the case halfs. If there's movement, something is wrong. If you band-aid a moving center main by shuffle pinning, you will have a broken center main. Some say extra insurance- I say a waste of money, time, and an unnecessary extra hassle. Ahem... TIRE COLOR ALUMINUM ;D Title: Re: I'm buying a new case........what do you suggest? Post by: stealth67vw on April 16, 2008, 03:17:33 am With a W125 I would bush the case. That is the reason I had to tear down my 1776 with a W125.

I think you'll find it's damn, as in that's a damn fine cup of tea. ;) Seeing tire spelt like that reminds me of a thread I was reading on a predominently US based mail list. A guy was looking for a specific tyre size and someone had suggested a Dunlop tyre to which someone else posted that they had seen some Dunlops and there was no way he trusted a company who's quality control let through products where they couldn't even spell the product right. :D Title: Re: I'm buying a new case........what do you suggest? Post by: Steve D. on April 17, 2008, 06:52:47 am so shuffle pins yes or no? ::) In my opinion, no. how much extra did you pay for sleeving lifter bores? When I had mine done, Brothers sleeved the lifter bores in silicon bronze for under a hundred bucks. Last I checked, Rimco was well over two bills for aluminum. |
