Do you drive your bug on a regular basis?

Well, beings that I'm decent shape, eat healthy, and get enough daily fiber... I suppose that it's safe to say that don't drive my Bug on an irregular basis. Just increase the fiber intake if your desire is to be regular. Because a Bug can't be enjoyed if one is constipated.

I don't drive mine anywhere near as much as I'd like. It's taxed MOT'd and insured, but I just don't get the opportunity.

I use it almost everyday during summer time.

But I think I will use it less now because rust start to attack some panels and as we don't have the same weather as in California, opportunities to drive it will decrease a lot  :-[

I drive my 1964 stock beetle every day and sometime switch to my 1967 Kombi even so the heat is an issue in Phoenix.

I drive mine quite often anywhere from two to seven days a week, short but sweet drives. Sometimes good long hauls. It sees 100 plus mile round trips at times. Just yesterday I took it to Laguna Beach that was probably about 100 or so miles round trip. It's not my daily driver for work but it gets it's use. Jason

It's so funny, Americans complaining about gas prices ;)
Sorry guys.
It's half of the price we have to pay

I don't think that you realize how much further we have to drive than you guys. Everything is spread out.

I do.
And I could also say that maybe you don't realize how wonderful your road system is and that it would be just impossible to do the same thing (cover the same distances) in Europe and how much time would it take, than you would say that the situation is not the same in different places in US etc. I could also add difference in average wage etc. It doesn't make sense. It's incomparable and I'm not saying that one side is in better situation then the other. All I wanted to say that 4$ per gallon is a funny figure from my point of view.

I try to drive mine every day as long as it's not raining - baja not too good in the rain - too many open areas - too much unpainted cromoly - but back driving it this week - freash engine - little motor - 1776 - but it runs hard  ;D

If Europe's gas prices had tripled in the last 4 years, you would be bitching too!!

Off my soap box... ;)

I drive my 67 8 days a week at least 300 days a year, rain sleet, snow or 110F  heat. The only days it doesn't get driven is when I am too drunk to drive ;D or I'm taking a trip with family. I got it a year and a half ago and it has only been down for 4 days, when my Pertronix fried and I had to mail order another. I've put a little under 11,000 miles on it so far.

there is a cunundrum in driving a hot rod VW on a regular basis....

a) driving it is the ONLY way to make sure parts are working together and not grinding themselves into a pile of dust. Little short blasts around the complex or neighborhood once a month won't show you if parts are living in real world conditions. Getting the car out for a number of hours a workweek will bring any would-be problems to the surface (trust me  ::))

but......

b) driving the car on a regular basis does create the need for constant eye on "things" and semi-constant adjustments and service. Things wear out (and sometimes come loose, fall off....etc.  >:(). Seems like as much as I have been making miles go by on mine the more often I am under it looking for "stuff"

so what does a guy do?

there is a cunundrum in driving a hot rod VW on a IRregular basis as well....

a) parts that are on your car can be looking good, but will not function better, no matter how long you let the car sit. only washing your car and trailer it to shows is ot going to make your car any better as well. wearing gloves will keep grease marks of the car when pushing it on and off. the biggest advantage is that you can run the chrome fanshroud and tinware, no matter what those 'callookers' tell you and will give you extra showpoints (yes even in the new millenium!)

but...

b) oil changes every other week are nontheless mandatory to keep the top half of the crank lubed. fuel is not recommanded as it stains and makes paint fade. brakefluid falls in the same category as it is so agressive, replace it preferably with soapwater or screenwasherfluid.

Off my soap box... ;)

It has taken a bit longer to triple - 13 years by my reckoning, but we're now at the point where petrol is ridiculous.
I worked it out here:
http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,4595.msg64833.html

That was just over a month ago, and it's risen by 4 pence (about 7.8 cents) per litre since then - around one pence every ten days.
Currently petrol here is $2.12719 per litre - $8.05 per US gallon!
