That car is scary fast!

He was running and the Drag Day last month. I think he had a couple of issues in his first runs. I never got back to him to see if he got it sorted out.

One of the first to use nitrous was Mike Smith....back in the 70's......Dave Folts had a oval N2O car in one of the mags at that time too.....Marwin Miller is the key figure.....The Red Sled was running N2O too and the best looking Cal-lloker, Dave Perkins mid nine street sweeper used N2O too. I myself..............................yeah i got a helthy dose myself of N2O from my days at the local racetracks with no entry fees ;D

Gotta love that Mason car, a mean machine!

Me too is playing around with nitrous and this is my second season with the bottle in my car. First season was more a test season and I experienced problems due to electrical issues and a bad performing Optima Redtop battery. Last winter I mounted a separate fuel pump and a separate fuel line for the nitrous and a new Optima Bluetop battery and everything works well.

Frank, how much are you going to shoot?

This is something I'm working on...

It's an adapter for the NOS activation Button that goes on the Empi GT Wheel, as i don't want to drill holes in my Sterring Wheel!!!

It'll be hold on the Wheel by two little lips on the adapterplate and one little screw that will go thrue the original Opening in the spoke of the Wheel...

Looking good Frank!

Me too have the NOS button on the steering using a self made adapter quite similar to yours (thanks to Tekken for the nice looking piece) I liked the idea to have a button instead of a trigger down at the pedal or around one of the carbs. I have the flat4 copy of your steering wheel.

I installed the solenoids on top of the fan house and I have mounted the nozzles on the inside of the manifolds using flexible wires from the solenoids. I drilled the jets on the nozzle side to oversize (1mm) and I change jets on the solenoid side instead. This way I only change 2 jets instead of 8 down at the manifolds.

Hi Beetlebug,

Do have more Pics of your NOS Set-up?

What Nozzles are you Using there, or are they simply Polished?

Hi,

I`m crazy but I`m not that crazy that I would polish my nitrous nozzles  :)

They are the annular discharge stainless straight spray ones from NOS. I do have some more picks, I just need to find them. Is it anything special you want to see a picture of? It is a very simple set up but it works.

On this year engine my manifolds are heavily welded but there is still room for them on the inside.

Shit, I totally forgot. I will see if I can find some of mine set up. You can aslo check out Roars set up here; www.nitrousbeetle.com His engine is really nice and pushes his race car over the line in 10 something. If I remember correctly it dynoed 253 without the NOS and then he added around 135hp. You can find all the info you need on his page.

Look forward to the first time you push the button.. I did the happy happy dance outside first time I pushed it and people thought I was loosing it  :)

back in 1995 I put my line-loc button on a similar piece of ally mounted on my steering wheel in the correct location for my right hand thumb - it works really well. a lot of non-VW people ask what it's for, and the easiest way to explain is to show them... ;)

First year I used one pump, one 8mm line, 8mm outlet from the original tank and two regulators - worked fine and nothing bad happened. But I only had a 40hp shot. I did not retard the ignition and I did have a fuel pressure drop. Lucky? Perhaps. I did install two pumps and one extra 10mm line the year after - no problems. If you have a effective pump, big enough fuel line I do believe you can get away with a singel system up to a certain level.

I used Holley blue and their crappy regulators but I will never buy that pump and regulator again. Noisy and cheap looking both the pump and the regulator. I do like their new black series though but have not tried them.

I would love to see a VW with a real professional system with 2,3 or 4 stages and one hell of a shot.

Nitrous...it is fun to work with as long as you stay on safe side.

I also use a separate gas tank for the Nitrous and I run BOSCH fuel pump for the injection with regulater(with fuel return bypass).

Many said keep the fuel pressure as 6psi for nitrous....or so but since I use injection pump, I run with 47psi !!!(Fuel jet size #16)  and my current Nitrous jet size in #28

Also use MSD multi retard system, so every time I squeeze it timing will retard 4degree.

So far, no problem on this set up. ::)

I think it's a #24 or 22 jet in the nitrous and a #26 on the fuel. I've got a Holley fuel pump and a separate -8 hard line for the nitrous. It's been a long time since I've messed with the jetting, but it runs strong. I've been bugging Dave to come on here, I usually see him on Saturday mornings at Cars and Coffe in Irvine. I'll bug him again. Glenn

I like your attitude - look at pauter-tom here on the Lounge (http://www.bugwahn-dragracing.de/ ). If I remember correctly he used a 200hp shot without any kind of retard or controller. That got to be on hell of kick!

Here is a question to you; why do you change jets at the nozzle end forcing you to change more jets compared to what you could get away with if you changed it at the solenoid end. By doing this you only change two jets and it takes 10 minutes. I drilled my nozzle side jets to a oversize (1,5mm) and used one 34 and one 32 jet.

Squeeze on 3rd and 4th only made 12.17@112.6mph

Did you use 4 jets, or only 2?

With this setup (4 jets) , you have 128 hp shot and 5.34 nitrous/fuel ratio and I would thought your top speed should be higher? (calulations are based on fuel with spec. gravity of 0.740)

I took this pictures at Euro bug in. I forget the name of the owner of the car and I'm sure he's on the lounge (Sorry  ::)), but that's the one which receive the price for best cal look. A VW from the DFL.
Take a look how the Nos buttons is mounted.

Hi J-F,

it´s my car, as Fabian already stated. The button is for the start rpm limiter (Mallory HyFire VI box). I don´t run a NOS system on my car.
Bye,

Tobi

Fuel for the Nitrous come from separate fuel tank @ 47psi,  Nitrous pressure @950  ::)
Ntrous jet#28 Fuel#16

4 jets not 2.  Well, Should...and hope it goes more fast...but that's what I got at last race. Should strat squeeze it from 2nd gear.
Still testing.

Is there something wrong with your first gear? ;D  (I like to shoot from the start)

In this run I used 24/24 1000/6.5

Here is some pictures of my nitrous system;

I have my nozzles mounted on the inside of the manifold and I used 1/8" nylon lines that runs on the backside of the fan house. Instead of jetting the system at the nozzle end I have a single jet metering at the distribution block. A pair of 36 jets equal to four 18 jets and 56 jets to four 28 etc etc. I used 40 fuel and 36 nos with 7 psi fuel pressure and 900 psi NOS pressure = 40hp.

Changing the jets takes two minutes.

Best rgs
