Title: 1970 DKP clubhouse "playlist" ? (Sarge, hope your boss ain't around today)
Post by: Jim Ratto on April 25, 2008, 18:21:40 pm
Sarge, you've mentioned in some places some of the goings on at the Pickwick... or wait, it wasn't you guys that had the stereo it was DRF, right? I'm obvioulsy a fan of a wide scope of music, but most of my catalog predates me, I'd have to say...

So we can get a glimpse of the early DKP club feel.... what was on the playlist back then Sarge?
I'm guessing "Street Fighitng Man", "Sunshine of Your Love", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Castles Made of Sand", "Immigrant Song", "Let it Be", "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes".....

so ok Sarge, let's have you roll back the years and cue us up some albums....   c'mon....and if Sheep or Nacho make any "old guy" jokes I'll kill 'em for you.

Jim doesn't have TIME to read the book...sheeesh! ::)  ;)

Of course there's the tunes that you mentiond, Jim...but for me, it was the music that we used to dance to at Penwinney's on Thursday nights every week.  The band was a group called Chuchill and they were really good...lot's of early Chicago stuff like Beginnings, South California Purples, I'm a Man...Sly and the Family Stone's I Want to Take You Higher, Sing a Simple Song and Iron Butterfly's Ina-Godda-Davida always come to mind.  Sometimes, Sharon and I will hear something and we'll both say Chuchill.  Another place we used to hit was in Costa Mesa on Superior and was called The Reef.  A band called Joshua played there and the keyboard guy played a huge church-style organ...did a hell of a job on Uriah Heep's Gypsey....damn, gives me goose bumps just thinking about it 8) ;D

good times Sarge...  funny if I have radio on "classic rock" station of some sort...  songs like "All Right Now" (Free), or "Born on the Bayou" (CCR) or "Layla" (Derek and Dom.) will come on and I think of you guys burning out at Ward's or hanging out at Taco Villa.  8)
