Title: HELP!!! Positioned Cam gear on cam shaft in wrong Position Post by: 1953oval on May 06, 2008, 12:56:11 pm Hello,
I am looking for advice. I have rebuilt my 2110 and installed a C.B. Cam 308 Duration with 560 lift. I turned it over to start and and did not start !!!I checked the piston position when on the relative strokes the piston and foundthe piston is not in the correct position for the inlet/exhaust Valve position ( Exapmle the piston is going down on the Exhaust stroke???? . This has lead me to believe i have made a mistake when installing the cam gear on the cam shaft by installling the gear in the wrong position so is 120 degrees or 240 degrees out !!!! Obviously when building up the bottom end the timing gears were meshed in the correct position however the cam is not phased correctly. Obviously the cam gear bolts can be accessed through the oil pump so i presume i can reposition it without stripping the case but Can any of you guys tell me:- 1. Any Tips for changing the cam position??. 2 Best way to determine how far it is out??. (Possibally by Overlap) I appriciate i have cocked up and if any of you guys can help me out i would be much appriciated however i guess this is what happens when your not a expert. Many Thanks Justin Dawson Title: Re: HELP!!! OK, pull out the oil pump and take a look at the slot across the end of the camshaft – it must line up with the bolt-hole adjacent to the '0' mark stamped into the rim of the cam gear. If it isn't, you'll need to remove the bolts one by one and then rotate the camshaft – to do this, remove the valve gear (rocker arms and pushrods) and then use a large screwdriver to turn the camshaft manually until the slot is aligned correctly with the cam gear. Refit the bolts and torque them up, adding some Loctite to the threads first. Title: Re: HELP!!!
