Also that lash has an effect on how quiet they are also. I have noticed that the CE ones seem to be louder than the cb ones. I have always wondered which ones the sloval used, that car was/is loud as hell. I also have used magnums and Gear ones, they both are much quieter.

Bugpack Gears, Awesome sound. But it also has a lot to do with your play on the gears, springs etc. I deburr mine completely and check with white grease how the pattern looks like.

Yes you are right... the howling comes from the gears being straight... but the volume comes from the case!
