Title: Not enough end play at flywheel
Post by: j-f on May 14, 2008, 20:48:48 pm
Yesterday, I check the end play of the engine I'm building for my 68.

I found a play of 0.27mm with 2 shims of 0.24mm. So, I need a 0.17mm shims to have the ideal play.

But, the thinner shim available is 0.24mm.

What have I do wrong?  ???

I was thinking of a wrong size of bushings, but the crank turn freely.

Hi
what crank and flywheel do you have ? I would cut the flywheel as much as you need to get the right endplay with 3 shims .

Let me guess. Are you using a LEPE 69mm crank? I have had to do this many times when forced to use those cranks. I would take 0.010" off the flywheel thrust face and re-shim from there...

I use an stock crank with a stock 200mm flywheel. Machined for 8 dowels.

Without shims, I have 0.80mm.
