Title: Outlavws!! Thoughts wanted... (rear shocks)
Post by: Jon on May 15, 2008, 13:52:07 pm
What kind of shocks would you use on a near stock weight car?
The primary use will be on a track with exceptional traction. The car has 28 mm torsion bars.
I have heard Red Koni's will do the job, but more input would be good.
Any ideas?

AVO aluminium shocks.  Lighter than the Koni.  Has button adjusters so you don't have to remove the shock every time you adjust it.  Settings 1 to 20 adjust both up and down pressure (fairly sure Koni only adjust on the downward).  get the supplier to re-calibrate the settings so setting 10 becomes setting 1, then you have harder settings.  I use settings from 16 to 20, all the lower ones are useless for Drag.  Remove the top covers to revela the red vinyl seals which will then allow you to see how much the shocks move on launch so you can re-set the tension to get the perfect launch.

Cheers
Phil

Thanks, who sells these? And can handle a recalibration?
States would be good with the dollar way down...  Do you have a partnumber?
Again Thanks!

Check out

http://www.demon-tweeks.com/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=AVUATA090/070

there's a pdf doc link there - basically get the perfect measurements you need from your car then aim for the closest size they have.

I never got mine adjusted (wish i had  :(), I'm not sure if you need to the supplier to have them adjusted before they are delivered from AVO to the supplier.  I know it cost more to buy a set and then send them back to have them adjusted, better to do it straight up.  If it's a serious full-on drag only car you want to get it recalibrated so the hardest setting is the new softest setting.  But for street/strip i would have gone for start at step 10.  hopefully there's people out there who have had them recalibrated....

I agree with Beardie, AVO is the thing, but for the "normal" racer that isn't very  weight minded the steel ones are good, you will be paying a lot of money for litte weight reduction. I didn't recalibrate mine either, but I wish I did.
If I would recalibrate my AVO TB436 I would set the hardest setting in the middle.
The price for the TB436 is £47 each compared to about £120 each for the double adjustable alloy shocks.

i only have koni reds on mine,
Set to max hard?

If anyone wanted a stiffer Koni, P 944 Koni yellows fit IRS rear suspension.  Got 'em on my car right now.

I bought mine direct from Avo +44(0)1604-708101 (Nigel) and had them re-valved before they sent them. I had mine re-valved so that 16 clicks original equals 3 clicks re-valved then worked from there. As Phil says they are no good less than 10 clicks. I also run 30mm torsion bars. Bernie

Thanks for the great advise, I just had a chat with Nigel at AVO... and it sounds straight forward enough... now I just have to squeeze out some cash from somewhere  ;)
What are the two knobs on the QA1 used for Tekken?

I went for the 1.625" as they were lighter.  No clearance issues for me.
Cheers

Thanks for that , i have had a measure up and ordered 1.6 as 2" will be a bit tight on the axles.
