The torque setting as per VW manual is 350Nm which i think is about 220lb/sq,
but a little more dosnt hurt. Don't forget the Loctite.

Bugpack sell this tool, I just made one myself looking similar in about 20min out of some 2x1 box section and flat 10mm steel plate with some holes drilled

you bet I can...

in fact this guy "ty" is related to sheep... no kdding

he taught us all what not to do when tuning a VW for more power. Drained his mom's To#¤ta Celica's oil from the motor, ran it through a pair of her panty hose into his Bug motor when it was low. He didn't believe in exhaust manifold sealing (of any type), rear windows, working electrical, or brakes. Watched him port a head with head on engine, with a hand drill, then blow port out with air. Watched him "do a valve grind" by slathering valve-grind paste onto seat, inserting valve and runing the stem in a drill chuck. Yes with heads on car. Best though, had to be his carburetor linkage. He "got" a pair of Weber 44's from his uncle that raced 914's but no linkgae. So he "fabbed" a setup that I have yet to see again...  he made a simple swivel off top of case, out of an 8mm stud and pipe-strap. From there he ran two lenghts of pipe strap to each carburetor, but he had to cut slots in the fresh air ducts for the pipe strap to push and pull through. Ugly doesn't begin to describe it.

Car always sounded ragged..... wonder why... ::)

Jim,
Did he have a beryl green '62 63 ish with 356 front brakes and rims???  Newell Dunn recently bought said car and it had a linkage just like you describe. Also had a micro switch setup rigged on the turn signal lever to flash high beams.... hmmm crazier things have happened.

Hey Jason.... no it was a muddy, dirty, primer grey 64 or 65 Bug with repro 5 spokes.... this was 1987 or so up in Livermore (N Calif)
Your colleagues car sounds MUCH nicer...  ;D

I forgot to mention his vise-grip window cranks, inside door handles and at one time, even a steering wheel (no kidding)

it's amazing how careless people can be with something they put their lives in.
