Just like finding empty drainage ditches/reservoirs and swimming pools to skateboard in... Google Earth is your friend.

thats not a runway, they dont put hangars that close normally, unless you can absolutely guarantee that the pilot is a genius!

Thats not a hanger thats a 30 year old farm building shown.

All the hangers have nice plane sized doors on them, but you are right that only one of the return roads !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow!! That is a nice find... I have a old German wartime runway 3 km from my house... unfortunately they made such a good job of it that its still used by Ryan Air with friends...

I was living in Newbury when they offically closed Greenham common airbase - largest runway in Europe at 2 miles long.  In the end they developed a small area but left the runway...been sitting there empty and unused ever since...gutted

What a fantastic find! During the war the Germans built their biggest airport very close to where I`m from and where Trond Dahl lives and even though most of it is today a HUGE business centre it is quite fun to drive around. It is easy to spot the old German concrete and your can see the old drainage channels everywhere. The old runway connecting the two strips is used a a road today and when driving on it you notice how wide it is.. and parts of it is used for street legal racing.

But equally you could put clothes on a hangar, it'd be almost as daft as someone who's a turbo short of a racecar looking for tracks to race on but you could.  :P

(By the way, pleased to hear your Spitfire's got a home, anywhere you can think of to put a 28/30 seat twin engined 'trike' I measured the garden and it's not going to fit).

 ;D

talking of spitfires , we had the boys from Top Gear here yesterday doing a bit of flying, they had a 2 seater spitfire each and went off playing battle of britain for half an hour, although clarkson looked a bit cramped and the hamster couldn't see out!!

hopefully we are getting a FIA licence to do F1 lauch testing on the runway soon, fingers crossed.
