Title: A day at the races[el mirage]
Post by: richie on May 19, 2008, 20:25:37 pm
i got to spend a day at El mirage dry lake yesterday[thanks to Steve D for driving out there] it was an amazing laid back atmosphere, just run what you want when you are ready,a quite diverse selection of vehicles, quickest we saw was a blown rail run 298mph with some serious traction issues, the highlight for me was the citroen DS with ally big block v8,apart from the intake snorkel it looked remakably stock but had run best of 240mph :o
It only ran 175mph as the driver was doing licensing passes but was so cool and different, heres a few piccies :)

cheers richie,uk

Amazing place. Funny, but two days ago I wore for the first time in years my 'El Mirage 1989' T-shirt.  :)

Great place until the wind kicks up and stirs up the dust. Superb atmosphere!

Good stuff, Richie! I especially like the Citroën DS. I've always liked the SM models, too.

are moondiscs mandatory to race there? a lot of cars have them.

and what is that little motercycle with the 1217 number on it. i like that as well.

Not required but pretty much everyone uses them.

So are you ever going to put up any of the pictures you took of that girl (?) you fancied?  You know, the one in the motorcycle leathers?   ;)

Glad we were all able to make it out there Richie- next time though, Bonneville.

Seriously though, who wears black socks with shorts?

By the way, I think the coolest part about the Citroen was the 750lbs. of steel weight hiding under the trunk lid- oh, and the "extended" dashboard.  ;D

American tourists named Stanly who are in their seventies and vacationing in Spain.  ;D ;D ;D

I think Bob Stahl's Bug runs something in the order of 1000lbs ballast.   :o

Me. I've been doing that for years. This is from June of last year.

Sorry, Rick... I'm not Stanley, nor am I on holiday in España. Far from being in my seventies, too.

 ;D

Back to thread stuff; I'm guessing that the Citroën bodies would do well regarding aerodynamics on the salt flats, yes?

OK, which girl? the one on the golfcart?  ???

BTW: white socks are not appreciated here in Belgium by girls. i know they are the 'cool thing' for the last 30 years i the USA, but here i know several girls who think white socks (especially with long pants) are a big turnoff. but to each there own, if you want to stay single.

Fred that pic could have been taken in the eighties with that board, wheels and helmet.

Come to Papa!  With the X in the class, it has to be a flathead or early inline.

My guess is an inline judging by the exhaust peeking out from underneath. Dig the quickchange, too. :)
