Title: cut or not to cut
Post by: banditina on May 20, 2008, 04:37:01 am
HI, i have a beetle 1963 with BRM flat4 5" Michelin zx 145's, I am thinking a 4cm narrowed beam or a stock beam....
cut or not to cut... this is the problem...
stock beam or -4cm beam for a cool cal look...
tnx

I would go with the stock beam.
This is a matter of taste but in my opinion a real looker doesn't need the wheels tucked further in than necessary. A narrowed beam is ok if you need it to make the wheels sit right due to offset issues, but you should have no problems at all with the Flat4 BRM's and 145's.

I think it depends on your brake set up , if your running drop spindles or disc up front, it might increase the track ? In that case Narrow it enough to return it to stock.

Do it just enough to bring the wheels back into the original position

Cut beam aint callook ;D

So there is another Reason for my Car then not being a Cal-Look... ;) ;D ;D

I kept the Chrome and my Front Beam is narrowed 2.5cm per Side...

That was done because of the CSP Disk Brakes that widened the Track and the F4 BRM's with 145's started to rub against the Fenders... ;)

I wouldn't cut unless you had rubbing issues, which should not be the case with those wheels and tyres!

You are doing it all wrong...!!  next thing you will be telling us is that you are fitting N20!! Or that you are trailering it!!

If it rubs, cut it just enough to clear.
