Title: Rebound Stop Modification for SA beetles
Post by: spennyp on October 25, 2006, 11:52:09 am
Morning folks....got a question for ya....running a 2387cc in 64 bug.....I used to run a camber compensator....but I cant anymore because my gearbox has heavy duty side plates and it wont fit......i've heard of people modifying the rebound stops.....i've not seen many pictures.....can anybody on here shed some light on it.....I presummed that material is welded in to stop the spring plate travelling any further.....and therefore resulting in NO rear wheel tuck

Thanks in advance :)

I use 13" limiter straps instead. Availible at most off-road shops in the US.

i was wondering about that too Spence......

what about those flop-stops (bugpack i think??) that locate on the springplate with a grub screw to prevent downward travel.....are they any good????

Keep the rear wheels from unloading, just like a rebound stop. Here is a picture of mine.
I use 14" and I think they are a bit to long.

After speaking to few US racers, they all use straps and have done so for years, welding the spring plate sounds like complete cock.  So save your money get straps made to measure at £14 a pair and it does the same job.  Plus it can be undone back to stock if you want.

There is many ways to skin a cat, stop the ping-pong argueing.
Welding up the stops is one way and limiter straps is one other. I run limiter straps and it works for me (11.29 in a N/A street bug without any handling problems). Some other time maybe I will try to weld the stop.
If you run a business you have to get payed in some way so I don't think it is weird to charge people money. No one is forcing them to do it.

I don't like the harse language though. Maybe it's OK on the UK forums but keep it there.
