Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: lowfastbus on May 24, 2008, 18:27:01 pm I like it, it's like what cal-look would be if it was invented 40 years later...

I like it Post by: Zach Gomulka on May 24, 2008, 18:34:12 pm Superb attention to detail, but the beam is too narrow and the car has too much rake for German Look. I also dont understand why he left some parts chrome, and painted others black? The motor looks all business, I like that :)
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Prowagen on May 24, 2008, 18:45:32 pm Black T-Bars and Window rubbers without trim would look awesome on that, I think it could quite easily fall into the cal look category, not pure but definately there lets face it aren't porsche cup alloys an 80's wheel so there knocking on a bit too.

I also dont understand why he left some parts chrome, and painted others black? The motor looks all business, I like that :) Yes, it gives a bizarre feeling. the CSP Scorpion Exhaust is wonderful! It gives a neat appearance, without tubes visibles on the rear of the car. Otherwise, it is a cool car. I always like modern wheels on a bug. Title: Re: What do you think of this ? Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Lee.C on May 24, 2008, 22:16:19 pm ALOT of car for the money - and its a 66 ;) :)
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Cheesepanzer on May 25, 2008, 02:42:22 am I kind of like it. I agree with the comment above about the narrowed beam and rake.
I think the engine would look better if he had the exhaust ceramic coated BLACK. 8) Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: WCB Hitler's Hot Rod on May 25, 2008, 09:25:54 am Not bad. Whatever YOU like.
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Sam K on May 25, 2008, 14:36:49 pm I would probably replace the wheels with some detailed fuchs and replace the black stuff with chrome, but it'd car either way.
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Glauco on May 25, 2008, 18:36:31 pm it's a cool looking car,

Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: jamiep_jamiep on May 26, 2008, 14:25:28 pm I like it as is, even though its not something I'd build. Builder has made a nice job and it looks very different.
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Rennsurfer on May 26, 2008, 15:21:49 pm I don't care for the blacked out Boxster wheels, narrowed beam, or exterior trim. Although the engine compartment is GREAT. No matter what all of our individual tastes are... you can't deny the fact that it's a nicely done car as far as quality and attention to detail.
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: 62 Ragtop on May 26, 2008, 15:56:15 pm As you said, who cares, it is cool! 8)
I dig the way the black accentures the paint. The engine and engine bay is top notch in my book! I agree with some of you other guys, I'd be interesting to see it run blacked out window trim throughout, black running board moldings, black t-bars etc (now it is a bit of a mixture... :-\) Also, the rear tires seem a bit, i don't know, odd (maybe its the low-profile, huge rims, narrow beam and the rake, all in that combination that looks a bit funky...). Maybe it's the novelty that is a bit hard to adjust to... I mean, using later style Porsche, or huge rims (17",18",19" rims), on a slammed bug has been seen before, or more traditional German Look has also been seen... but this is a bit of a mix in styles IMHO... and somewhat refreshing if I dare say... ::) But, I like the car, the looks, the ambition, the work that has gone into it, and the linkage between old and new! my 2 cents Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Cornpanzer on May 26, 2008, 16:41:53 pm Superb attention to detail, but the beam is too narrow and the car has too much rake for German Look. IMO, it has too much rake for any look! Kinda cartoonish. Its that whole crossing genre's thing - cars with an identity crisis. Not cal-look, not German look... That being said, it appears to be a very well built car. The detail is nice. A couple minor changes and it would be a home run. Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Donny B. on May 26, 2008, 18:03:48 pm If you leave the trim black then you need the bumpers to be in black chrome!
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: 58vw on May 29, 2008, 23:43:31 pm i like it, a little different ;D
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Speed-Randy on May 30, 2008, 01:01:32 am i dont like the rake, kinda stinkbug lookin, other than that a nicely done car

And I don't think it's refreshing. You can say "refreshing" about mixing styles in clothes fashion, but we are talking about cars. Obviously, the owner wanted to take something from two styles and create a mix, the point is that it doasn't make sense. Just think why did people start to put such wheels on Bugs and where did rake and narrowed beam came from. The first is from racing, the second is from drag racing. Buy combining the two, you make a car that is neither good in handling department nor in accelerating. I personally don't like cars build with fashion and styles in mind only, without taking into account given style origins and original inspiration, the reason behind it. This is the same problem as with stupidly low and stupidly narrow Bugs, build only to be lower and narrower then others around.I can see that a lot of efforts and resources (money, time, craftsmanship etc) was used to create this car, but for me - they were wasted. Sorry. Title: Re: What do you think of this ? Sorry. They are not wasted... on a set of black 906 steel wheels with a normal beam and that car would look... well, like every other cal-looker! Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Adele AW on May 30, 2008, 12:16:20 pm Thats my good friend Scott Marsden's car! Its not a 'finished' car in terms of what Scott wanted to do to it, for example the rest of the chrome would be black etc.. but as he's emigrating to Canada he's leaving it as is. :)
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: The Ideaman on May 30, 2008, 15:18:29 pm I dig it. Finsh blacking out the chrome around the windows, and maybe raise the front up a tad. Call it good. Sure as hell couldn't be built for less than he's asking. Somebody buy this thing and change it to suit your taste. Sort of reminds me of the red vert from Vegas with the big wheels on it.
Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: benssp on May 30, 2008, 15:44:17 pm I love it! but I am from essex. I couldn't believe this was Scotts car, far too mild for him. ;D

Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: THE DISCIPLE on May 30, 2008, 21:03:56 pm Hi Guys,
so at least it got you all talking about what is, and what is not acceptable, however i have never built my cars in the past to be accepted, it was not aimed at cal-look and is indeed a strange mix compared to most cars but i believe it strikes a delicate balance of what from each scene is good, i built the car for me and not to conform, not trying to think outside the box but to think there is not a box is sometimes refreshing. I love cal-look and that is my next adventure. I had planned to elovle the car with black window trim/surrounds and try black bumpers maybe 'T's and add some german look with carbon runners and carbon gauges but she has to go as Adele mentioned after 3 years of planning my wife and i have sold everything we own (gulp) as we have our residency visa for Vancouver Canada where I intend to indulge in cal-look with the guys from the DVKK(if they will have me). in response to- 'I agree fully, In my mind thought should be given to every single piece on a cal look... mindless bolting-on is something else... completely' I feel very strongly that you could say alot of any look is mindless bolting on of parts but i feel customising is far from mindless after all how long does it take to bolt up a set of Brm's or burners or install a 2332cc carbed motor, I am pleased i spent mindless hours putting what i would consider a professional EFI installation together and hand making numerous parts to do it and getting the brakes, wheel and suspension to all work within the original vehicle package. (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a284/scottmarsden/engine.jpg) Its not a personal dig just be aware that mindless is a thoughtless word. Anyway it must have got the blood pumping and thats what life is all about, shame i am not going to be able to enjoy it this show season. I look forward to landing and look forward to exploring the scene overthere. Kind Regards Scott marsden Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: Jon on May 31, 2008, 00:46:27 am English is just my second language, but I get the impression that you think that I was talking about your car in that quote, I wasn't.
I'm talking about the "latest rage" parts, you know the must have parts that don't actually DO anything on the car... Like a turbo pressure gauge when you don't have a turbo ;) Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: THE DISCIPLE on June 02, 2008, 17:16:30 pm Sorry chap,
that was me getting excited. too quick off the lights us Brits. :D No personal offence or attack meant. Scott Title: Re: What do you think of this ? I like it Post by: ballbag on June 02, 2008, 17:40:36 pm That car is awesome, i don't think it's a mix of anything. What i do think is, if cal-look was to begin now then that's what it would be.

I feel so less than, now. ;D At any rate, it's good to read everyone's different opinions on this thread. Carry on. |
