Title: an old hobby comes back around
Post by: Jim Ratto on June 22, 2008, 18:04:53 pm
anybody else build scale plastic car models? Haven't done it in 15-20 yr but have some nice Fujimi and Tamiya kits still waiting.
I used to build a few a year when I was in junior high in the 80's

Any pictures?

I used to build a lot of plastic but the few times I've tried to pick it up again, I've been frustrated because I can't build anywhere close to what I used to.

I finally learned to "take my time" once I got into my 20's.... did a nice 356 Cabriolet 1/24 Fujimi kit.
On the shelf, awaiting work are
1977 Brabham/Alfa BT46 F1 car, 1/20 scale Tamiya, driven by Niki Lauda

1974 Porsche Carrera 3.0RS 1/24 Fujimi, not sure on color yet, want to do an original 3.0RS color...

1964 356 Carrera 2 Cabriolet 1/24 Fujimi, maybe go with India Red and black interior. Not sure...

2002 WRX STi 1/24 Tamiya

for 1/24 scale, they are the best I have built so far, detail wise. The little 4-cam Carrera 4 cylinder for 356 has crank, rods, case halves...too bad my vision sucks.

I really want to find one of those. Do you have any pics of the finished R model you built?

have you done any of the 1/12 scale Tamiya models? When i was a kid, those were a dream to someday own. I'm still dreaming  ;D

Apologize not, my friend. For there is no such thing as off topic in the Off Topic forum. Besides, Porsche images are always welcome and usually considered good taste.

Party on, Garth.

That's awesome, Fabian! You should start a model building company and call it Fabian Fabrication (in French or English). I thought that I recognized those BRM-like wheels from somewhere else. Good job!

opened up my stuff last night... seems the Brabham/Alfa has been started (must have been 4-5 years ago) some of the engine bits have been painted "magnesium" color. So looks like this one will be first in line.... I'll take some pics in a few days.

AH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

So THAT'S where the car ended up. Someone somehow got it inside of a clothes dryer, shrank it, then, chopped the roof off and added it to their model Type 2. Fantastic! At least now, people can actually see the car. Well done, Sir.
