Title: Residual Pressure Valves Post by: Buttons on July 01, 2008, 15:22:28 pm From what i have read from various places, a residual pressure valve will reduce spongeyness from the pedal and improve the performance on my front discs.
I am happy to try fitting one of these as it is the only thing outstanding that is preventing me from getting my MOT!! Problem is....... i cant seem to find anywhere that sells them!! VW Speedshop advertise them on their website but do not stock them and only order them in at special request (this also takes a fews weeks!) The chap at Speedshop also seems to think that it wouldn't solve my problem anyway! I did find some on ebay but could not get the info from the seller as to the fitments on each end. I'm assuming it will need to be male one end, female the other... but is it a standard thread size???? I just rang Speedflow and they are getting a delivery of them on Thursday and better still, they are about 5 miles away from where i work.... RESULT!! Do you think this will cure the problem? I know its hard to diagnose via a forum but i cant think what else to do!! The brakes have been bled 4 times with NO air coming out so i'm pretty confident on that side of things. The discs/ pads are brand new with brand new flexi hoses. It's running a dual master cylinder. aaaaaaaagghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! :-\ Title: Re: Residual Pressure Valves Post by: nicolas on July 01, 2008, 15:55:45 pm for what it is worth i followed bens advice and bought two 4lbs valves from a shop in england and fitted them yesterday. i haven't been able to test it as i have no engine in the car. BUT it feels different. before it was the first push on the pedal that almost went totally to the bottom and afterwards the brakes would firm up and brake good. but the first push was sometimes surprising... so now i fitted ONE 4lbs valve for the front disc brakes ( i use a linelock and that doubles as a splitter) and it vastly improves the problem. now i always have the same travell and the pedal is much firmer, will let you know if it is better when i drive.
