Title: Was my old car wrecked at EBI2
Post by: Matt H on July 10, 2008, 03:54:32 am
I just got an e-mail from my fellow Cornpanzer Richard Roth and he had heard that Big Bad Orange was hit at EBI2. Its the Orange Looker in my Avitar. I sold it to Mags from Norway. I hope it was just a rumor. Please let me know if you know if it's true or not. Thanks

I will let Mags tell the story himself but a guy was unlucky and hit Mags. One dent on the rear apron and one on the engine lid. Knowing Mags he will fix this easily.

Hi Matt,
Yes its sad but true, one french guy crashed on the way back in the return lane. Fenders, rear apron, engine lid and T-bars are damaged. I will fix that next week and I  will also make a removable rear apron.
I will send you some photos.

I did have lots of FUN this weekend and I managed to get in 14 or 15 passes. Best ET on Friday - 12,99.

Man, sorry to hear about that!

I am thrilled that somebody finally made a 1/4 mile pass in that car.  Matt had no problem going 100mph down residential streets, but was afraid to do it on a track.  I knew the car had a 12 in it with a good driver!  ;D :D ;)

Really!?!?!  :o  The car ran a 12?!?!!?  Must be the non-Michigan air that did it! ::) :P ;D ;)

Just ribbin' ya Matt!   ;)

Sorry to hear that it got hit, but it is great to hear that it was being driven down a track!

Not bad for a mild 2276 with home ported heads, 125 cam, pump gas motor. The Steve Beecher box has been outstanding in that car.. Sorry to hear about the wreck. I know you will get it fixed in no time. Congrats on the 12's.

Dave, I see I am not the only one shlubbing off at work today.....haha.

By the way, I have only heard good things about Steve Beecher's trannys.  Chuck Fryer had like 2 or 300 hard passes on his with no problems, Chuck can confirm this here.

Yeah Mike. I did it over 2 winter months. I worked with Jim Galbraith on them. I would work on them, take them to his place, we would go over them and point out areas we could improve upon. They are un-welded CB 044S with 40 x 35 valves. I am prety rpoud of Mags. I hope he gets it back together.

not bad for un-welded heads bolted to that streetable combo huh? It was fun having the die grinder freeze up on me after about 20 minutes of using it in 20 degreee weather, but I ws proud of the fact I did that my self. I dont always slack guys

Richard you know I do. If I cleaned up it would interfere with my slacker ways. I do have some photos somewhere, but this was pre digital camera. I also dont have a scanner. I did keep a set of intake gaskets I used as a template. WOW my old street car is now a race car? Are those stickers on my paint?

What year is the car? The photo from EBI2 makes it look like it has a short bonnet?

Rob.

That's one of the deals with racing at EBI - you have to display the sponsors stickers - about an A4 sheet's worth I think. Most people tend to stick them in the windows!

It's a '68, so yes, short bonnet.

Just a statement. That car was painted in the garage with PPG concept single stage a long time ago. I spent weeks working the panels on it prior to paint. Looks like Mags is enjoying it. Any video out there of its passes?

I was only pulling your chain!!  ;) :D
It's like that when you sell a car, look at Bernies Ghia, it's not been owned by him for quite a while but it's still 'Bernies Ghia' :)

I think someone is having seller's remorse...... ;D

Matt, I miss my '65 too, but I KNOW it is in good hands in SOCAL with Bill Taormina, so that makes me feel better.

I do miss the rush of the pedal to the floor acceleration in that car. I also miss pulling up to the local Detroit Muscle car guys and surpriseing the sh** out of them at a light in my little VW.
